The theater at six points used to be the Tower. That was up until I moved in 1959. Limerics (sp) was on the SE corner at Ayers and Staples

Absolutely right regarding the Tower.

It was still open in the 70s as a Spanish language movie theater. My mom dragged me there a few times. I believe that a CVS or Walgreens pharmacy is now in its place or next door to it. It's been demolished of course.

1968 for sure according to this website. You can see ad pages for theatres that were in operation back in the day also.

Corpus Christi Theatres

This website has some great historical data on CC theatres:

Couldn't get pictures on the first url to load. Does anyone remember the Melba and Grande on Leopard Street about 2 blocks toward uptown? How about the "Chat-N-Chew" cafe at Leopard and Brownlee?

Was the chat n Chew @ Leopard & Brownlee? I remember that it was across the street from the old Sears bldg, where the City Hall is now. I think that the chat n chew disappeared in the early to mid 80s.

You are correct in that it was across from Sears. I thought it was gone well before the 80's but I could be wrong. Another memory that just hit me was that at Naples and Tarlton or Sheley (sp) in the early 40's there was a factory that made peanut brittle and corn chips. Might have been a Fritos. I lived at 234 Edwards St. which was just 4 houses off Naples St. toward Ayers St. The last time I checked Del Mar College parking lot covered the north side of Edwards. I remember when the original brick building for Del Mar was built in 1939 or 40. Boy, time sure flies.

Now that I've looked at that site, i realize that the drive-in that I "thought" was the thunderbird was actually something else. It was the one on ayers that was on the southside of SPID. there were swap meets held there after the drive in closed. there was also another drive-in on the other side of SPID (Ayers St) next to the "mission shopping center", which opened about 1973 or so. what were these drive-ins called? there was also one on port ave, where an HEB is now. Anybody know that one?

Default Local TV Personalities I recall

Walter Furley-channel 10 newsman. A voice to go with a face and talent ahead of his competition. I was a counselor with his children in a summer church camp and he was a truly nice guy and great parent.

Gene Looper-channel 6 I believe.

Ken Cessna-sports reporter. Before the days of ESPN and internet instant scores and widespread radio/TV coverage of all games, hosted a radio call in show on Saturday afternoon and evening where callers could inquire about scores for their team.

Paul Lott-I believe this was his name. Sports reporter for KIII tv and umpired games at Oso Little League in the 60's. Salty and funny in his style.

Sad to say, this is all I remember and they are from the 60's-70. Anybody else recall any local TV personalities?
