Regarding heath food in South Texas.
Welcome to the 20th century. South Texas ( Tex-ico ) it's that area somewhere between Real Texas & Real Mexico Tex-ico. Tex-ico is still back in the 80's. We're not sure at what point Tex-ico will join Texas in the 21st Century.
I can tell you right now ! We have no heath food outlets in the Corpus/ Rockport area.
People here are so big, most have to drive 3/4 ton trucks just to fit in a vehicle. Most restaurants have drive-thru windows. Besides, most Texicans would never consider walking anywhere anyway.
The Coastal bend is the only place I've ever lived where the Shopping Scooters at the grocery store out number the clerks. H.E.B. on Saratoga has a fleet of Scooters most golf courses would be proud of !
Bring your own heath food. Consider opening a store, we can go together!
If I'm still here, I'm trying to get out of here as quick as I can.

once again, you tell it like it is. and for the poster who said they dont see the rampant obesity here? all you have to do is watch the Corpus Christi tv news stations on a regular basis..anytime they discuss health, they discuss the large percentage of people in this area with obesity and DIABETES. and me being a Registered Nurse, having practiced for 17 years now, and quite a few years in the Ft Worth and Wichita Falls area, and places in between, i can tell you that it is TRUE. gee...........the local nurses down here were surprised that an RN with all my years of experience had very little knowledge of dealing with dialysis patients-well DUH cuz i RARELY encountered them in other areas of Texas!!! dialysis centers flourish here! they even have them in small towns outside of Corpus. it's pretty dang sad. and i cant believe how many amputees i see-from losing their digits and limbs to uncontrolled diabetes. it's absolutely SAD. these are the SICKEST folks i have ever dealt with in my career.

oh yeah. The Cooper Center (actual legit healthy lifestyle center in Dallas, says the adults are so gone in Texas, there is no point, and are now just trying to save the kids from the "lifestyle."
Mrs. Phil and our kids are veggies. Means I am most of the time, too.
But visiting Corpus, we might as well pack a week's worth of food to take on the trip. All the places put meat in everything, including lard in the beans.
Between the food and the refinery -- geeezzzz.

There was a good restaurant downtown called the Tango Tea Room (don't know if it is still there) that had vegetarian, organic, and healthy menu choices that is worth checking out. I ordered a lot of my stuff online and a bunch of us carpooled or combined lists and took turns going to San Antonio.
Also check out this site for health inspection scores. It will help you decide where to eat.
