hubby got the transfer to Corpus Christi. We'll be moving at the end of September. We have 2 boys going to school next year oldest will be in 4th grade and the 2nd will be starting kindergarten. So, my question is this... when do the schools usually start there. When i was in high school in Schertz texas... it was the 2nd week in august. Is that still true?

Do schools for the elementary grades have uniforms in portland or calallen area (that's where we're looking to be living).

Congratulations and welcome! This year CCISD started on August 24. Not sure about the others. I do know that the Tuloso-Midway ISD is on a year-round schedule. The legislature enacted a law that schools can't start earlier than something like the third week in August, but schools with a year-round schedule were grandfathered in.

I suggest you go to the ISD websites for the districts you'll be looking at and check their calendars and get information about their dress codes.

Calallen starts around Aug. 24th (depending on when the Monday falls) and they have uniform up until high school. The uniforms are simple polo shirts that can be bought at Bealls, Old Navy, Wal-Mart, etc. and regular blue jeans, khaki's and skirts. Very simple and affordable. Good luck with your move.
