(CNN) -- A Holland America cruise ship was disrupted early Saturday morning by an intoxicated passenger who released the ship's anchor, according to an affidavit obtained by The Smoking Gun website.

California resident Rick Ehlert, 44, released the anchor and a life buoy between 5:25 a.m. and 5:55 a.m., according to the affidavit.

I think this would have been more appropriate than just arresting him:

Love it! What a doofus. However, I think that the cruise ship has some of the responsilibility...after all, when he looked intoxicated, did the bartenders and servers stop serving him alcohol? Hmm..I don't think so...Those ships will serve people who are practically passed out. That would be my "defense" if I was this guy. "Hey, they should have cut me off when I was obviously drunk"...could work....

Although I dont agree about cutting him off, it does seem like they'd have a bit more security or maybe even a locked door to get in the place to put down an anchor.

I didnt like how they made it sound like he was trying to damage the boat or sink it. It seems pretty likely it was a dumb drunk guy who got dared to do it. Nonetheless he deserves jail time haha

I'm with you. If they don't have that secure, what else isn't secure on that ship?
