'The company is not only going to refund everybody, but they will offer a 30% discount on future cruises if they want to stay loyal to the company,' a spokesman said.

Survivors of the Costa Concordia wreck are being offered 30% off future cruises with the company — a sales pitch that was not received with much gratitude Sunday.

“It is a ridiculous and insulting offer,” survivor Brian Page, a retired British accountant, told The Telegraph of London, which first reported the discount offer.

The "stay loyal" comment is possibly the stupidest phrasing he could have come up with. That's not going to get people on your side, Carnival.

hahahahha, that's terrible. Their image is already shot from this and they go and pull that one? Who is their public relations rep and when will they lose their job?

The OP is not entirely accurate. In addition to the 30% discount:

ROME — The operating company of the Costa Concordia has offered to pay €11,000 (about $14,400) in compensation to each of the more than 3,000 passengers aboard the ship that capsized two weeks ago, Italian consumer groups said on Friday.

The offer, negotiated by the consumer groups, is an attempt by Costa Cruises to limit the legal fallout of the accident.

Each passenger would also receive a refund on the cost of the cruise itself, and for their return home. The offer applies to all passengers, whether a child or an adult, who suffered no physical injuries. Injured passengers will be dealt with individually.

Those accepting the offer would have to agree to drop all future litigation, and receive payment within seven days.

Well that seems a lot more reasonable, in that case they shouldn't be complaining

Yeah they probably won't be taking up that offer anytime soon...

Sure it was traumatic, but they're greedy buggers...unless they lost a loved one, or a lot of property, it's an opportunity to make money, like most lawsuit claims. They should be happy they survived.

never accept the first offer, personally I'd hold out for a bit more and be given a chance to steer my next ship into port. Hey, what's this button do?
