I am taking a 7 day cruise with three stops. I found excursions I would like in all but Belize . Is it safe to just walk off and wonder in the city? Or does anyone have a better idea, it is my second cruise first on princess march 8-15
I would not walk around on my own. (maybe just in port), but there is not much there. If you are looking for an excursion, this is the best one....and the one everyone uses. HIGHLY reputable and GREAT:

To be hoest wjtwet, No, I would not walk around Belize alone, other than the shopping area near the port. I have to admit and this is just me, but like, St Lucia, Belize is not one of the ports I want to visit again. We have been there several times. Now days we just stay on the ship and enjoy the peace and quiet.
If you do want to do something, yes, as susie suggested, Cave tubing seems to be the best excursion there is. Snorkeling should be good as well, but I would do it through the ship.
BTW, not to be a spoil sport, but you do realize the ship is going to be filled with college kids don't you? Not that is should spoil your cruise, just be aware. Have a great cruise!!!!!
We were in Belize last year. Did an excursion on our own that was the best ever! Took a taxi to the airport and hopped on a puddle jumper for 15 minutes to the other end of the country. Then walked over to the boat dock and got on a boat for snorkeling. They took us out to the reef and we got to snorkel with the nurse sharks. Best snorkeling I have ever done in my life and I've done a lot of snorkeling. Highly recommend it!

for snorkeling both Belize and Roatan are the best you can find outside of the great barrier reef. I still would not go ouf on my own in belize.
As nmnita said, don't wander around Belize City on your own. We spent the better part of a day there during a cruise in March 2010. My companions and I didn't book an excursion that day, though the rest of our party did and had a fabulous time. We spent time walking around and looking the shops right at the pier. When we wandered a couple of blocks off the beaten path to check out street vendors, we were immediately uncomfortable. It looked like a very unsafe and unsavory area. We were also warned by the ship's staff not to take a chance on a taxi, as the drivers sometimes gouge riders for money and don't always get people back to the pier on time.
We had a real nice time relaxing at a bar in a huge tiki-style hut that had live music and a breathtaking view of the bay. We also had a great lunch for a surprisingly reasonable price.
