I have learned from vacationing that the U.S. has several cruise terminals on the Gulf of Mexico. Miami and Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale) have been established as cruise ports for decades.
I saw that Galveston TX has a port (and that one is planned closer to Houston, possibly to replace it) by seeing a Carnival ship in port, someone in Pensacola FL told me that Mobile AL is a cruise port from which people go to the Caribbean/Mexico, and near the Dames Point Bridge in Jacksonville FL (not on the Gulf), there was an off-ramp marked for the Cruise Terminal.
Are there others? Do passenger ships call at New Orleans LA or in Tampa Bay FL?
Carnival? Other lines? Where in NOLA is the port - within walking distance of the French Quarter? In Tampa Bay, do they go under the Sunshine Skyway Bridge or is the port outside of it? That is, if you know.

You have NOLA< Tampa Bay, Mobile (but it is very small) and the new one in Houston, which is now open I am pretty sure. Whether is will, indeed replace Galveston I don't know. The same with Jacksonville, as Mobile, it is very small, but is a port.
Royal Caribbean cruises out of Tampa and so does NCL. NCL also cruises out of NOLA, but they are going to start cruising the new Houston terminal so I am not positive if they will stay in NOLA and/or Tampa. The smaller ports you mentioned are used only by Carnival at this time.

The NOLA port is near the French Quarter--probably a 15-20 minute walk to the intersection of Canal and Bourbon.
They have to go under the bridge to get into Tampa, not all ships can port there as a result.

Thanks. In their day, both Galveston TX and New Orleans LA were ports of entry for European immigrants. Everyone I've ever known who has boarded a cruise ship in the southeastern US has done so at MIA or FLL. America keeps changing. So does the rest of the world.

Interesting information about Galveston and NOLA, I didn't know that. as for the new Houston port, NCL will start sailing out of it in Spring of next year I just learned. I still don't know if they are going to continue cruising out of NOLA as well.

The new Houston terminal is supposedly in, or right outside of, Baytown TX. Correct me if I'm wrong, someone.
