Don't know about cruise ships, but on airplanes, always put important meds in a carry-on bag.
Yep, that's what I did. I went ahead and brought all of the actual bottles, which was kind of a pain because I take fourteen.
In the future, my pharmacist told me she could give me smaller sized bottles and print out rx labels and but on them. Next time that is what I will do.
I made sure to only bring the amount I needed plus a couple of days. I really didn't want ALL of my medicine to be taken, etc.
We pack our prescriptions with our carry on bag. That is one thing we need control over. We take only the original bottles with the current r/x info on them. Paper prescriptions are difficult to get anymore as doctors are now required to fax/phone them directly to the pharmacies.
We've traveled around most of the world and have never had a problem with our prescription drugs being questioned.
Just remember to take only the amount you know you are going to need plus maybe an extra day or two. No need to take 2 months supply when you only need say 10 days worth on the trip.
I never take the bottles with me. I just have used the week case thing with the AM PM but instead of using it a 1 week, I use it as 2 weeks. Have never had problems.

You're in the vast majority that has been lucky. One experience caused me to ALWAYS bring the bottles.

We do the same. I know it is better to carry the bottles, just to be safe, but I just take the number I will need as well as couple extra just in case. We carry them in our carry on and have never had a problem. Of course none of our prescription meds are life and death types.

I had a problem only once, many many years ago, entering China. All ended well, but I cringe when I think about how it might have gone if I hadn't had those bottles.
I wonder if a picture of the prescription bottle label would be sufficient to keep you out of trouble. You could have the bottles with anything in them, anyway.
If they are in the original bottles in your carry-on bag, then you have custody of them when your checked luggage goes to Rangoon or Valparaiso and you go to Trinidad.
