I'm going on the Carnival Dream Ship in a few weeks and I have a question. The info about the ship says there is WIFI throughout the ship. My question is if I bring my Chromebook will it work in my room where I would leave it. Also, would this be an additional fee?
The few ships we have been on sold it by the 'batch', eg 20 mins, couple hours worth, etc. Remarkable how quickly a 30 min batch you just bought goes by, when the minutes are ticking away...
It is pricey, but was worth it for checking email, etc.
It is usually somewhere between dial up and bad/old DSL, though it can get very slow at the usual peak periods, and can go out for no reason.
May be worth it for email/easy low kB stuff, but I would not want to try to stream or play on line games, or...

My brother who went on a cruise with his family a few years ago wrote me at the time an email from the ship (as we were meeting when they returned) that the wifi was extremely expensive on board.
Not only is it EXTREMELY expensive and slow, just going through the 'handshake' protocol to get connected to the site you are after can take several minutes ... which you pay for! IMO, unless you are so 'connected' that you feel compelled to spend your port time at local internet cafes, leave the notebook at home.

Generally, I agree with you; however, we do bring a tablet or smartphone and use it to download emails when we stop for a coffee or drink. Read and reply to anything important right then (very little, actually), read and reply off line to others as necessary, which gets sent the next time we hook into wifi at another cafe.
NEVER use the internet on the ship. Even if it were free, I simply don't have the patience.
Oh my God, you pay by the minute. I thought it would be like $20 for the week. Forget that, the Chromebook stays home.
Thanks
word of advise, do not use WIFI unless someone else is paying for it. You could probably take a second cruise for the price the ship charges. While on vacation we like to think, we can live without modern technology. Well certainly some tech, but not the computer. The only exception would be if your job requires you to be available 24/7, but what is a vacation if you have to be available for work? Now if you do want to stay in contact, normally the ports have internet cafes, we will sometimes use them.
T check email, we used the on-board computer in the computer nook.
Be sure to turn off your wifi on your phone, etc. Not so much a problem on the boat, but you will be open on the islands.p (data theft, etc).
