our choice of doing the same ship for the third time doesn't mean we love the ship, but it is nice: it in the NCL Pearl. We choose the itinerary, which is usually the reason we choose a ship. That and the fact we happen to be top of the line frequent cruisers on NCL. The perks make it worth going over and over. We will be doing St. Martin (certainly not new to us and St Thomas, the same. ) But we are doing Martinique, totally new: St Kitts, we have been there once but just got off the ship, bought some cheap native made earrings and got back on and Antiqua. The only time there, it was raining so we stayed on the ship.
In St Kitts we did the zip lines, it was such fun!! I had reservations but so glad I got talked into it. I'm mid-60's and far from the oldest person on the lines.
Our experience is that the cruise lines put their tired old ships on the 3 and 4 day runs. The newer and better ships are on 7 and 10 day runs.
Bigger ain't better, when the cruisers outnumber the natives in a port, you wish you had gone on a smaller ship.
Booze and jewelry are dirt cheap in St Thomas.
Yes, the cruise lines do use the older ships for the 5 day or less cruises as a rule. But the interesting thing is: we are reading this thread, answering it and the OP never came back to tell us what he choose. The post is about 6 months old.
Good point about this being an older post. I was surprised to see Brilliance of the Seas on shorter itineraries but time does fly by and by cruise ship standards "older" ship! I loved the Brilliance, awesome ship!
