I wonder if the prices have gone down, while at the same time Alaskan Cruises are going up. I haven't been looking to go on a cruise lately, but if I did, my inclination would be to head toward Alaska or New England, until Zika is under control.
I just got back yesterday from a Bahamas cruise that departed from Miami. Our hotel was discounted some, but the cruise was completely full. Maybe for future cruises in the coming months it might be slower then normal. I have not looked at prices recently, but what you are saying is a good guess.
Am I missing something? Doesn't the media's frenzy over the Zitka virus tend to ignore the fact that it is primarily a problem for pregnant women?
We just took a Carribbean cruises with a party of eleven, and little or no concern about Zitka.
Actually, I'd disagree. We live in a community populated primarily with seniors. Two couples cancelled travel plans due to concerns about Zika. Another told me their daugher and sin in law cancelled a family trip because they were afraid of their young kids getting zika (dad, I'm told, has been fixed so no pregnancy concerns there). And several men on the US Olympic team refused to go to Rio - yes, some were married and concerned about passing it on, but others were single and just worried about getting sick and missing tournaments.
BUT I do agree that it's been very overblown by the media. I thought the Olympic refusals were particularly over the top. It was too cold in Rio for mosquitoes during the Olympics. Nobody saw one, except maybe in Ryan Lochte's vivid imagination.
I haven't seen any noticeable price drops on Royal Caribbean cruises though with all the sales they have, it might be hard to tell in that way.
In regards to the Alaska cruises, they're going to be pricey regardless because there is a limited season (late May to mid-September) for those cruises. I'll be doing one myself though not because of the Zika virus. My favorite aunt has always wanted to see Alaska and, I'm going to treat her and her husband to their first Alaska cruise (I've already done one out of Vancouver, Canada).
I know I contacted my doctor about it since I'll be cruising in the Caribbean in November and, she told me to wear slacks, long sleeve shirts and take mosquito repellent. But otherwise, in my case, she said I didn't have anything to worry about.
I was checking most cruise lines last night and found that the majority of them were all booked up for months ahead. Though a few had some last minute deals on inside rooms from last minute cancellations.

According to my daughter who is a travel agent, business is down due to both Zika and terrorism. You are right. For those who say they are seeing ships full; this is probably true, because the cruises were booked and paid for months ago.
As for prices dropping, that may or may not be happening and she doesn't say business has dried up by any means but it has slowed down.
