I will say, having Lobster regardless of the price is a positive, even though the Lobsters are frozen and usually not the top quality. Many lines, including NCL are no longer serving it at all.
It's all good.

I was really impressed with the food but you gotta remember I don't have years of experience in fine dining. I do my shopping at Safeway and once in a while I'll go out to a fancy Seattle area restaurant. Most recently I went to a place called Palisade where the tab was about $500 for 4. There's also a place called Melrose Grill in Renton that I visit 5-6 times a year and it's even higher rated.

The MDR food on the cruise last year was comparable in quality IMO. Will post an update after my cruise next month that is also on RCI's Explorer of the Seas. I'll probably even try the premium menu at least once just to see if it's really all that better.

A cruise ship with kids doesn’t bother us actually because we have kids (ages 12 &10), however trip is without our kids. We booked a 5 day on Norwegian Jade in February going to Belize and Costa Maya. We have not been to either place. I know this is a smaller & older ship but it looks like it was refurbished recently. My DH and I make the best of any trip and I’m excited about trying a new cruise line!

Thanks to everyone who posted!

I have to smile a bit: you talk about older, it isn't nearly as old as many ships at sea nor as small, but when you compare with ships built in the past 5 years or so, it is just like what you are saying. The GEm is part of the jewel class ships and they are very popular. Enjoy~~!!

Carnival is too much of a party atmosphere for me, you may be different. Never cruised RCCL so can't say what they are like.
As far as mass market cruise lines, I like NCL.

On my cruise that leaves Saturday I won a bid for the Haven rooms, can't wait to see what that's like.
Congrats on getting the Haven rooms! I am very envious! Enjoy the trip!

I have only been on two cruises, both with NCL.

The first cruise was in the Caribbean on the Epic. The Epic is a pretty big ship, with top flight entertainment (Cirque and Blue Man) plus lots of eating options. Also, I loved the design of the balcony cabins on the Epic. The gym was well equipped as well.

The other cruise was in the eastern Med on the Jade. The Jade is a smaller ship and was still sporting its Hawaii'n decor from its days cruising around Hawaii. The cabins were pretty standard but workable and I had some excellent meals on board.

Service on both ships was decent, with the exception of the some of the casino staff on the Epic.

Oh! I should give a special nod to the Jim Capik on the Epic and D.J Red on the Jade. Both of these guys were excellent singer - guitar players.

I have rarely seen a truly pleasant, caring person working in the casino. Once in awhile they are nice, friendly and helpful, but we don't spend a lot of lime in the casinos anyway. If you want to see a group who are really unfriendly visit the HAL casinos. they are plain rude and I have never seen a bar tender on a ship casino that gives a darn, especially the mega ships like the Epic.

Well after sailing with Carnival for 10+ cruises, we wanted to give another cruise line a shot. We were platinum members on carnival and what do you get. I free 32 ounce bottle of water...whoop ti doo!.

Nov 25th we are sailing a 15 day Panama Canal cruise out of Tampa. Very excited because of the ports we will visit and the excursions we have booked.

I hope I am not disappointed with the food but then, I am not a big eater as it is.

What is this about a room charge? Is this only for room service? I understand the gratuities.

One reason we booked with NCL is because they were offering the free things. $50 off per port and then when we booked it, they were doubling that if you booked with in 3 days. Because we are not drinkers this seemed like the free thing to choose.

I hope I like this cruise line. If not, maybe Celebrity or Viking next. Will not go back to Carnival.

Cruise C is updating their web site and that is why you are getting that response. Those of us who go there often can't even post right now. Hopefully this will be cleared up in the next few days.

From what I know of Carnival, if you liked Carnival enough to go 10 times, you will probably like any other cruise line better. I have taken several Norwegian cruises and they have been very nice. Not sure which one we took to the Panama Canal.
