The idea of a big cruise ship gives me the heebie-jeebies, but I did go on a Viking Rhine River cruise in June with my 80-year-old friend because they don't have a single supplement, so if you go alone, it costs twice a much. They include a free tour at each stop, including some cool castles and cathedrals, but also offer optional excursions for an additional price. I would imagine the Viking Ocean cruises are the same.

Not usually, especially on repositioning. NCL sometimes offers free airfare and I have seen other cruise lines do this as well on certain cruises.

You are right and more and more airlines have reduced their one way ticketing so it isn't as expensive as it used to be. It used to be almost as much to fly one was as round trip, but not so much anymore. I am a huge supporter of repo cruises.

Alaskan cruises will have a lot of children onboard, but they will rarely be a bother, as there is so much for everyone to do in port. Everyone seems to go ashore.

Longer cruises if they are not broken into smaller cruises and repositioning cruises attract an older crowd with far fewer children.

Stay away from Caribbean cruises, especially if they are only a week long, even during the school year.

Oceania is an adult-oriented cruise line with excellent food. Just stay away from their Caribbean cruises if you want to avoid children/teens.
I agree with most of what you posted except for the Alaskan cruise. They do not have nearly as many kids as many other itineraries.
