A while back ago I started a post regarding Royal Caribbean's Voyager of the Seas and got great responses - thank you!! We booked our cruise to the western mediterranean and we're really excited! If anybody's been to that part of the world - cruise or otherwise, I'd love to hear from you. Here is our itinerary:

02-Aug Barcelona, Spain
03-Aug Villefranche (Nice), France - Best of the French Riviera
04-Aug Livorno (Florence/Pisa), Italy - Florence & Pisa
05-Aug Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy - Exclusive, Best of Rome
06-Aug Naples, Capri, Italy - Amalfi Coast, Positano, Sorrento & Pompeii
07-Aug Sicily (Palermo), Italy - Mysterious Palermo
08-Aug Cruising
09-Aug Barcelona, Spain

We are getting to Spain a day early so we can do some sightseeing and shopping. I wanted to stay an extra couple of days but due to work, that's not going to be possible.

Anyway, we have our excursions set for each port (listed next to port) and I'm especially interested in hearing from those who have been on the excursions I have selected but any tips/advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Excellent suggestion Minnie, can I second it? We did a western Mediterranean cruise five years ago but spent more time on Greek spots - Athens, Mykonos and Santorini. Didn't see Palermo but stopped at all the others you will be visiting. I think our trip was 13 (wonderful) days. My tip is to arrange private tourguides instead of going with the large over-priced ones that the ship will offer. You can easily google "tourguide, whatever destination" to get you started.

I've been to all of these places, but I can't imagine how you'd see them all in one day. Each of them is one full day. Pompeii is well worth it, though.
They all are.

Yeah, the excursions in Rome and Pompeii are each 10+ hours.

I hope my 60+y/o Mom can handle it!

THe curise will be good for someone like her who wants to see as much as possible in a short amount of time. I"m sure in the future I will go back with my husband for a longer trip. I'm goign to need a vacation for my vacation when I get back!

I bet you'll have a blast. Mom, too.
If at all possible, make sure you bring your own water to places like Pompeii or La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.
They charge an arm and a leg for it at the actual site, and trudging through those places can be thirsty work.
The Chagall Museum in Nice is really worth it if you can get there.
The Amalfi coast is some of the most breathtaking scenery ever.
Enjoy!

Hi!
Please, tell me if I have understood.
You need a "private tourguide" to see Palermo instead of to take a cruise tourguide; is it?

I'm sorry, perhaps my post was misleading. Our ship didn't stop at Palermo, that's why we didn't see it.
