i know you shouldn't pay full price for your cruise, so where have you found the best rates? calling the 800 number, cruise line homepage, secondary site (expedia, orbitz, priceline, etc), or thru "bucketshops" (do they even have those for cruises)? can you negotiate a price?

we're looking at going on our first one next year. we have a cruise line in mind (NCL) and would've definetly like to get more bang for the buck.

thanks for your help!

It really depends on the cruise you are after for the deals (as in how much as sold by certain dates)
Take a look at cruise.com or vacationstogo.com prices will be comparable where you can gain is shipbaord credit thrown in , cabin upgrade etc.

Many cruiselines don't (or won't) discount their prices, so booking thru a travel agent isn't always necessary. If you want a specific cabin on a specific sailing, it's almost always better to book directly with the cruiseline.

I booked through American Airlines ... it wasn't any more then anything else I could find online and I got frequent flier miles ... I got some kind of coupons or something but most were alcohol related so I didn't use them

I always book with the cruise line directly. I have only cruised on Carnival thus far. But Carnival has a price guarntee. If you book your cruise and the price drops for your cruise (must be same dates, same cabin cat, ect) they will credit you back the difference. This will work until you pay it off. I was able to save about $100 after booking my most recent cruise, just by watching thier website.

Carnival will not help you with this, unless you book with them. You have to call your TA to see if they will help with the price change. I have been told that some will and some will not.
