Is october 24 a bad time to take a carabbean cruise from royal carabean cruises inc. I will be gong to st thomas. sanwan, st marteen and labadee hatti. I know the peak season for hurricanes is august and sept.
For hurricanes, it can be risky in October too. But price wise, that's the BEST month to take a cruise. Plus, the "kid volume" on cruises is very low that month. They're in school then. (Well, except for those like mine that are homeschooled.)
Make sure you check out the old city in San Juan and do the pirate tour in St. Thomas. The old city in San Juan is fascinating. The views from the top of the island in St. Thomas are awesome. A tip for you, what Royal Caribbean calls a nominal charge to access its Internet isn't. When I did a cruise with them (I can remember the exact dates), they charged 55 cents a minute which to me isn't nominal.
Hurricanes are a non-issue for cruises, they just sail around them. Well - you could miss some of your ports of call, I guess that's an issue. But your shouldn't consider any personal danger in a cruise because of hurricanes.
More of an issue is the heat. That's why it's the off season. It will be hot.

It would only be bad if there was a hurricane and you would be very disappointed not seeing those ports. The cruise line (ALL cruise lines) wont put their mega-million dollar ships in harms way. You might run into some high seas for awhile, but will be safe. So, if you dont mind spending time just hanging out at sea, its a chance you can take. I personally have cruised then, and its a great time..but then, Ive never run into a hurricane! Any day at sea is better than a day spent at home!!
With the high seas, Royal Caribbean's ships have stabilizers which they use at sea. This helps cut down on the rocking of the boat. I agree with Dd714 and DotLib, Royal Caribbean isn't going to put its ships at risk. If necessary, they may change your ports of call or you may get an additional day at sea. There will be plenty to do onboard the ship. I did a cruise on the Adventure of the Seas and, it had an ice skating rink, a 2 level theater, a fully equipped fitness center, a mini golf course, a roller blading course, a jogging track, a full basketball court, 2 small swimming pools and a casino. They also organize different events. I remember competing in a trivia game they had twice. I won an official Royal Caribbean pen playing that. Ok, the pen wasn't impressive but, it was fun. They also had 4 or 5 shops and at least 4 restaurants to choose from dining wise. It was very impressive.
I have been on 2 October cruises in the Caribbean, both were great. One of them was between 2 hurricanes. We had perfectly smooth water. My friend who sailed the next week had rough water and had to miss a port of call, for which they were reimbursed about $20.00 per person (Carnival). Another friend ended up spending an extra day at sea because the home port had a storm that had to pass. It's hit and miss on the weather, which is why they are so cheap. Book the cruise, hope for the best, keep an eye on the weather close to your sailing date and if it looks like there may be storms, pack some seasickness meds, a rainjacket and an extra book. Be flexible and enjoy your trip, wherever it takes you!
