Your price is what we are paying for good comprehensive insurance without any medical pre-existing conditions etc.

Usually, the price of good insurance is a percentage of the cost of the cruise. We are doing a 23 day high end cruise in the Mediterranean this Fall as our retirement gift to ourselves. We booked the cruise back in December. An awful lot can happen between December and October. It doesn't have to be medical even. It could be volcanic ash or an airline strike that prevents you getting there.

It is expensive if you don't have to use it but cheap if you do.

I noticed that some of you talk about having it in case the cruise is cancelled. Are you refering to cancelling yourself or if a hurricane cancels the trip for EVERYBODY? If a hurricane canceled the trip for everybody wouldn't the cruise line HAVE to refund your money?

Thanks for the confirmation -- We also are taking a 24 day Eastern Med Cruise in the fall (out of Rotterdam on 9/7) -- $1081 seems pretty high, but your observation about it "being cheap if you have to use it" is pretty much the clincher -- I guess we'll bite the bullet! - Thanks again

Cruises rarely get completely cancelled because so much money is at stake- being mobile, the cruise ships can sometimes travel AROUND the hurricane areas. This might mean changing or cancelling some of your ports of call. For instance, a friend of mine was supposed to make 3 ports of call in the Eastern Caribbean-they skipped 2 of them and just circled in the ocean. I believe they were refunded about $50.00 per person, and the water was so rough most everyone was seasick. Cruise insurance might have covered if they voluntarily cancelled and rescheduled.
