I am considering several Canada/New England cruises, and wanted to get some insight about which to choose. I have been on 9 cruises, but never one in this part of the country/world.

The biggest question is "Is Newport, Rhode Island worth an extra $200?" One cruise stops in Newport, but it is $200 more. Is it really worth it, or should I just skip it. The cruises that do not go to Newport, stop in Portland, Maine instead. I have been there before, but could likely find something I did not do before.

Also, the cruises depart from three different ports: Boston, MA, Brooklyn, NY, and Cape Liberty (Bayonne, NJ). Any opinions or experience on which one is better and easier to get to from the airport? I am thinking Boston would be easiest, as I remember the airport being close to the city, and I assume the cruise port is too. The other two would involve flying into New York or Newark, and it seems like the airports are far from everything and not cheap to transfer from and to.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Personally, I think Newport is a fantastic place - one of the most interesting towns in New England. It has a very different feel from Portland, so if you've already been there, I'd say go for Newport if you don't feel too bad parting with the extra money. The colonial streetscapes, the mansions, the cliff walk, Thames Street ... Newport is great! Lots to do and very beautiful.
