Bad enough to get injured by an airborne hot dog. But a hot dog thrown by a goofy baseball mascot? That's grounds for a lawsuit. Or says a Kansas City man who is suing the hometown Royals over the 2009 incident, reports the AP. It seems that mascot Sluggerrr was chucking foil-wrapped hot dogs to fans during a game when one caught John Coomer in the eye. The 53-year-old has since needed two surgeries, including one to repair a detached retina.

Fan Sues After Injury by Flying Hot Dog - Worse, it was thrown by the Kansas City Royals mascot

I'm pretty sure this case won't make it to trial since I'm certain that every major league stadium for any sport has a disclaimer somewhere on the tickets you buy to attend any event that states something regarding "We are not responsible for damages or injuries received during a game". It's like suing for getting hit on the head by a foul ball.

Interesting point about a possible waiver printed on the ticket. Just in good faith though, at least paying the guy's medical bills caused by the injury wouldn't break the Royal's bank account.

I'm not one for frivilous lawsuits, but this guy should get his medical bills paid.

I second that. Too many lawyers with too much time on their hands. Too many people wanting to roll the lawsuit lottery to see if they can get rich. But yeah, it would be nice for the team to offer to cover at least some of the costs. Got to watch it here too as I am sure there are some that will pick up on that as well.

The victim has had 2 surgeries, including one for a detached retina. Hardly sounds like a frivolous lawsuit. Randomly throwing projectiles into a crowd has to be the stupidest stunt ever. That practice should be discontinued asap.
