1 dead, 1 arrested after Purdue University shooting - CNN.com

It happened in the electrical engineering building. I believe that Purdue is known for having a very strong engineering program.

It wasn't a random shooting at least. The guy went into the building with all intentions of shooting the guy who was killed. The shooter then gave himself up to police.

Very sad indeed . Why do university shootings occur. Do highly stressful environments act as a contributing factor.

This has to stop. I don't know how, that's for lawmakers to figure things out.

Murder and killing has been with us since the beginning of time.

The US murder rates is at an all time low for the last 50 years.

We would need lawmakers to start with. How do you plan to change human nature?

I think we need to stop looking at others to make changes and start with ourselves, our children, our communities. It is like saying "the teachers arent teaching my children enough". Children dont just learn from teachers. They learn from their parents, their environment. I teach my son daily and he teaches me as well. I see his love for others, his love for life and nature. It is just basic needs and respect. If we teach it and live it, we will all be struggling and unhappy waiting for law makers to do things they will never do. I am so tired of teaching my son basic things like empathy and being responsible for his actions then seeing adults being irresponsible and ignorant. I get so tired of the whole "lets ban cars" argument. We make safety measures and changes everyday to make roads and cars safer. We wear seat belts, register our cars, we have age limits on drivers license, cops patrol the roads, car makers design safer cars....guess what, those things save lives!

Honestly, I am not sure it is so simple as tbat. We can do all we can as parents, educators and communities, and its still not the .magic bullet. I personally don't like guns, but I do t believe taking them away is the answer.

In this case, it is sad that this student felt he had to resort to violence to solve his problems with another student. Even though the shooter is I custody, we may never know why he felt this was the only answer.

It brings back a memory of when I was a student at Purdue. A student was angry with his RA and shot and killed him before taking his own life.

My heart goes out to the family
