I think this is just pathetic, in the midst of all of these terrorist threats - all the mayor cares about is if there are gays who come to his city. It's just laughable.

BBC News - Sochi 2014: No gay people in city, says mayor

Sure just like this mayor would believe there are no gay Mc Donalds customers.

Wow, I can't believe how people are misinterpreting him.

When he says there are no gay people in his city, he means "gay" as in "happy".

Nobody in his city is happy. And that, I can believe.

LOL! Good one. A city would be full of very unhappy people with a mayor like that.

This doesn't qualify as "out of touch."

It's a distraction. He'd rather talk about the gays than talking about his crappy city in the middle of a nation of thieves.

Question: Why doesn't the USA respect the cultural norms of other nations? Especially when (in terms of homosexuality) they are in the vast minority of the globe. So in essence the USA is pushing their extreme views on Russia.

If Obama doesn't want to go, fine. But don't send a gay athlete to spite Russia. No one is forcing the USA to attend the Olympics to begin with. This is why America is disliked.
