"Gabriel Magee, a 39-year-old JP Morgan bank executive, died early this morning after he jumped 500ft from the top of the bank's European headquarters. His body was discovered on the ninth floor roof, which surrounds the 33-story Canary Wharf skyscraper.

Just two days earlier, on Sunday, fellow American banker, William 'Bill' Broeksmit, 58, was found hanging in his South Kensington home."

Prays go out to the family. Any thoughts on this? Could it be a sign of future upheaval in world markets or just isolated incidents? Apparently it was bonus week at JP Morgan, although I would hope a lower than anticipated bonus would never drive a person to jump 500 feet from the roof of a skyscraper.

This is a tragedy. No question. The City is a highly competitive environment filled with Top Dog-itis.

The bankers are usually alpha male types, though less so than their New York counterparts. Every year, suicides make the news. It isn't indicative of anything other than their own perception of their own failures.

That doesn't mean there aren't big things happening in The City, just that this isn't an appropriate indicator.

Very true, I understand that but apparently both of these men were doing very well and in good standing with their colleagues and seniors. It may not have been their perception of failure but maybe remorse over something? It is very perplexing but one never knows what demons an individual carries with them.

William 'Bill' Broeksmit had retired and was no longer involved in banking, whilst Gabriel Magee worked in the IT Department of J.P Morgan and was not involved in trading.

Ex-Deutsche Bank manager found dead in apparent suicide | Reuters

JP Morgan IT worker falls 500ft to death from Canary Wharf HQ - London - News - London Evening Standard

They didn't know each other and it seems like it's just a sad coincidence.

The third banker suicide in a week. This one worked at The Federal Reserve at the St. Louis branch.

A Rash of Deaths and a Missing Reporter

"One day after Magee’s death, on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, 50-year old Michael (Mike) Dueker, the Chief Economist at Russell Investments, is said to have died from a 50-foot fall from a highway ramp down an embankment in Washington state. Again, suicide is being presented by media as the likely cause.

He was an assistant vice president and research economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis from 1991 to 2008."

Maybe just Maybe some truths are about to come out and these guys knew it.

The banking industry is full of crooks and swindlers, trying to ride the high wire risking other peoples money, making bad call and living a lifestyle that come with the folklore of the business and eventually it catches up..
the one's who usually escape untouched is the CEO, because he has enough insulation to be able to grab his loot without it being directly traced to his actions.

If you can imagine it, money and the pursuit of money has made someone do it. That won't change money brings its own madness when people think they have access to an endless supply of it. There are few limits to what they will do to keep the flow moving. Unit the catch up time comes.
