SO Cuban Leader Raul Castro announced today that he will be changing the government structure there, echos of East Germany in the 90s, and that that private ownership of housing and business will replace a socialistic system. He is opening free trade and begging the US to get involved. Gone will be the days of state run business and industry; these too will be transferred to private enterprise.
Public elections for a new president and new representatives will be announced, with all other details, at a public meeting on April 31st of this year.

What this means is that Cuba will finally be a free country again, and hopefully the US will relax it's policies on travel and tradde therin.

I am not so optimistic. This article lays out some of the pitfalls, such as corruption, bureaucracy, high taxes, lack of investment control, etc.

Who is going to decide what "private enterprise" gets what? Sounds like a plan to carve up the country for a few rich or connected friends.
