Politicians are pushing to ban the sale of tobacco products on ships and military bases.

I know they are not healthy. But as a former smoker I would not want to be under extreme pressure and need a smoke.

Yeah, let's cut their pension and then take away their smokes.

The military isn't banning tobacco products. It's discouraging their use by making access to them more difficult by no longer selling them on bases and ships. It sounds like a good idea to me.

Good.

Eventually cigarettes as an entire market product will be made illegal.
The sooner... the better.

Where would you have a person get their smokes on a ship? I have not smoked in 20 years. I do remember what it is to want/need a smoke.

When you are on a ship in the middle of the sea, it's kind of hard to go off base.

Do you feel we should just make tobacco illegal?

How about alcohol?

Salty and sugary snacks are unhealthy and contribute to obesity, diabetes, heart disease, etc. Should we make those illegal as well?

Should I assume you believe smoking weed should stay illegal?

I am imaging theft becoming a real problem for those who plan ahead and have a stash and others have none.

I hate smoking and anything to do with it. I wont step foot in any business that smells like smoke, and wont be around people at work who smell like smoke. I am a smoke snob! BUT, these men and women are sacrificing their lives for us and putting their own needs and those of their family on hold for years. If a cigarette helps them get through their tour, or even helps them stay up on watch one night, it's the least we can do to make them available. They are a legal good and until they are illegal, they should be available to adults.

To what point? Is it to make them healthier and less prone to cancer? My father smoke the majority of his llife and never got cancer. I know others the same way. I have five friends that died of cancer in the last three years or so and only one of them had ever smoked. If it's for health reasons then lets also make places like McD's off limits. Fatty, greasy food. Twinkies, donuts, etc also. They all lead to diabetes, cholesterol, heart disease, to name but a few. You don't like smoking or people/places that smell like smoke? Stay away then. Don't force your opinion on others. Why not go whole hog and mandate that they only eat things from organic growers and strictly abstain from alcohol. Naw, now I've gone too far, haven't I?
