Liberal logic - this guy who is providing meat and various other food items to the public is a free loader for having his cattle eat free grass, but illegal immigrants are OK? Makes sense to me!
he makes money providing meat, etc., but is not paying what he owes for grazing his profitable cattle on the taxpayer's land..... so in essence is being subsidized by the taxpayers so he can make even MORE money providing the meat, etc.
none of which has a THING to do with immigration.....
The cattle have been grazing on that land for years, so what! They claim to save a tortoise. How much federal manpower and dollars have been wasted rounding up his cattle, taking care of their health needs and feeding them, because of a tortoise? Let them feed on that land. Saves the expense of the taxpayers taking care of it.
The rancher in question owes the federal government over a million dollars in unpaid grazing fees. What strikes me is the same people who complain about undocumented immigrants and "welfare queens" are upholding this man as a paragon of freedom.
Guess what? He's mooching off the government, too.

Liberals...anything you don't agree with is liberal's fault, okay, sure. According to the article you posted, this man's feud with the government has been going on since 1993, 21 years. In that time span, has there been a republican crusade to change the law? I haven't heard about it if so. Guess they don't think it's "okay", either. Both our threads are against TOS for this forum btw, if you want to slam liberals, go to P&OC forum where it belongs.
His cattle were grazing for years on that land, with the government's permission, giving him grazing rights, until 1993 when some tree hugger decided they couldn't graze there anymore because of an endangered tortoise.

I agree with pretty much everything here except the word "too". This guy is the moocher that conservatives like to pretend "welfare queens" are.

People like Mr. Bundy represent all that is wrong with the Republican Party. This Bundy guy is a total dead-beat.
Before everyone takes sides on this, here's the facts I've been able to gather from what seemed like the most "middle of the road" news sources. I'm discounting the far-left and far-right ones.
1. Bundy's family has been running cattle on their ranch and adjoining public land since the 1870's.
2. In 1993 the federal government, in response to complaints from environmentalists about the tortoises, reclassified the land from public land to federal land.
3. The Feds told Bundy he could still run the cattle, but now he had to pay the Feds a "grazing fee." This did nothing to help the tortoise, and there's no evidence that the Feds became involved in the land in any way (i.e. no maintenance, etc.) There is evidence that since 1993, overpopulated tortoises have been euthanized.
4. Bundy stated, in 1993 that the land, as public land, belonged to the State of Nevada, not to the Feds, and would not pay the fee.
That seems to be where all this started.
I'm not really siding with the Feds on this. We have Federal land in California--the Feds are very clear about what the residents can and cannot do on "their" land, yet the Feds make no effort to control or evict the drug cartels with their pot grows. It's well known that the cartel members will shoot and kill hunters and hikers, and there doesn't seem to be a problem with that on the Fed level.
I'm not sure what the Feds were trying to accomplish with this.
