AMEN! Since when did society become some freakin' perfect that everyone is offended at everything? Over the course of my life, I like to think of myself as a good person (a golden rule follower), but I sure have had a laugh at other's expense and I know I have been the butt of ridicule as well. It's called life.

I'll let the perfect people point the finger and demand justice. I'll sit back and know the real phonies are the ones making the biggest wails of complaint!

You missed the point completely. The person he was making fun of had a disability. Some people draw the line there. Apparently you don't.

Hardcore bullies are completely disconnected from understanding how the people whom they bully might feel.

It is okay for blacks to make fun of each other, call each other the n-word and kill each other. It only matters if a white guy tries to do it.

I don't either, especially because of this--we are always hearing about how the disabled want to be accepted and treated just like everybody else. Well then, that's part of it if you ask me. I understand that there can be a fine line between harmless joking and just being brutal making fun of someone in a tasteless way, but the same can go for racial-tinged jokes or anything really.

How come there's apparently this unwritten rule that you can't in a good natured ribbing sort of way make a joke about ANYTHING to do with a disabled person? Get real. That's ridiculous. Handicapped people are always saying that they want to be treated like everyone else rather than everyone treating them differently. Okay then. If that's the case, take a joke like all the rest of us do. If joking about any tendencies or habits etc that they have is off-limits, then they are getting special treatment they don't deserve and it totally flies in the face of the idea that they just want to be treated the same as everyone else.

Then again, I guess I'm old school. I love watching old "Sanford and Son" episodes and seeing Fred Sanford talk about how Mexicans always get speeding tickets because they have to drive their dilapidated cars too fast so they can get where they're going before the car stalls, and I loved that clip of him mocking how the French talk all through their noses etc. We seem to have lost our ability to laugh at ourselves in that sort of way, and any behavior that's not tasteless and pushes back against this tide of political correctness, I'm all for it. I know it's not the 1970s anymore, so be it, I still say we've become too politically correct and can't take a joke about anything anymore.
Will you please post a photo of yourself? Any good natured ribbing you get should be hilarious.

[quote=shyguylh;34571553]What Shaq did regarding Yao Ming was funny to me, because I can see the value in a harmless JOKE, and don't have my panties all up in a wad over a bunch of absolutely

Shaq and Yao Ming are basically equals. That is a much different story than what happened in the Original post.

No question he is a better man. I mean really, who is Shaq? He is an oversized, overpaid and overexposed man who could dunk a basketball. Does that make him worthy of praise? Not one bit. His actions here make him worthy of contempt.

Unlike Jamal, who really shows what it's like to be man in that interview. Now that is someone to look up to.
