Breach Prompts Review of White House Security

One on Friday night and one on Saturday.

The Friday night incident is especially frightening. The man climbed the fence, sprinted across the lawn and actually gained entrance to The White House through an unlocked door. Apparently, the suspect had a knife.

What kind of security is that???

Luckily, the President and his family had just left The White House to go to Camp David.

It's apparently quite common to scale the fences, but none of the previous gate-crashers had actually made it into the building before.

You're shocked that the doors are unlocked? Hundreds of people work in the building, and people are constantly coming and going on official business (yes, even at night and on weekends). Of course the doors were unlocked.

I think they should have lasers that FRY you the minute you hit mid lawn. Jump fence, hit stride, hear "warning STOP NOW" then *ZAP* POOF! Nothing but smoke and ashes.

"The Friday night incident is especially frightening?" Why is that? I'm glad to see they treat the White House grounds like they treat our borders, open for all to run free in at will.

The first suspect had no weapons.

Secondly, how do we know these aren't drills they run on the SS? Security at the White House has frequent fence hoppers, it's not something out of the ordinary.

If you read the story, there were a lot of security in on him as soon he went on the White House grounds. They made the judgment calls that he wouldn't need to taken down by deadly force.

This.

Most police would have shot him 55 times in 30 seconds and then screamed officer safety.

Conflicting reports say he did not have any weapons on his person, seeing as he was tried in District Court for it I'll take your word for it.

Ahh, for the days when you could drive up to the front door!

Prior to the 20th century one could drive up to the door and hand the butler a business card asking to see the President.

Now, if you want an audience with his eminence all you have to do is meet at one of the myriad of fund raisers, present your business card (with a six figure check) and you'll most likely get a brief audience. 7 figures will get you an overnighter!

Imagine, people who PAY for the Executive Mansion actually being able to go there and see it...

What is WITH the secret service lately? Letting an intruder walk into the whitehouse, the drunken cavorting with prostitutes in foreign countries while supposedly on a protection duty, letting those bozos crash a party at the white house (not on the guest list) etc.
