Never one to shy away from controversial comments, NBA on TNT analyst Charles Barkley took the opportunity on Sunday night to address the criticism he’s received in light of on-air comments he made last week about obese women in San Antonio.
Barkley had said on the nationally televised broadcast last week that San Antonio is a “gold mine for weight-watchers,” that there are “some big ol’ women down there” and “Victoria is definitely a secret [in San Antonio] … they can’t wear no Victoria’s Secret down there.”
Activists groups including the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance called for his immediate apology, but on Sunday night, Barkley said flat out, “that’s not going to happen.”
“I’m just gonna have fun on TV. You know I’m joking … some of you people don’t like my sense of humor. Here’s what I gotta say. Turn off your damn television. I’m not gonna change.”
I don't see anything wrong with what he said- it's a fact that Texas has some of the highest obesity, so he was having fun joking with that fact as many, many people including other TV personalities do.

Well certain cities have very high rates of black crime. Would a white commentator be ok making a joke about thugs in those cities?
I don't see how it's OK to insult a certain group of people just because they may be overrepresented in a certain area. What about a good ol' gay joke when visiting San Francisco?
Lol I love Charles Barkley-
always have
He pulls no punches & has never
tried to be politically correct.....
Plus, he really doesn't care
about criticism-
he's a controversial,
outspoken dude
who I admire
So do you think people are OK if they admire Donald Sterling? Heck, lets face it, a lot of landlords hate renting to black people and a lot of parents would hate for the child to date a black person.
Quote:
Peggy Howell, a spokesperson for the NAAFA, said his comments were as hurtful as any insult about one’s body color, and as an African-American, he should know better, she said according to TMZ:
“Making slurs about body size is just as offensive as making comments about body color…One would think being a black man, he’d be more sensitive to having his physical body criticized. It’s totally out of line. He should absolutely apologize.”
The President of the Obesity Action Coalition also chimed in, according to the report, calling Barkley’s comments on Tuesday evening an “extreme disappointment.”
“As a former NBA player and sports entertainment figure, Mr. Barkley should encourage equality and respect among society and not look to shame or segment one population because of their size…Obesity is a serious medical condition and not a joking matter.”
Isn't Charles Barkley married to a white women?
If Charles Barkley owned a team and for years ran the team like a slum lord NBA Owner, then I would be more upset.
