What is really disturbing about this story is this guy's attitude. "The pretty blind sorority girls don't like me so they deserve to die."
And if you spend any time in the relationships or fashion forum this sentiment is very common among some young men. There is a thread with the same attitudes at least daily.
What little time I've spent there, you are oh, so correct! It's almost amusing in a very scary way.
Many guys like him are alone only because they want some 9 or 10 girl. This guy wanted a gorgeous blonde sorority girl, most people know who is realistic for them and who isn't, and stay based in reality when dating. But I think many guys today watch so much porn and see so many gorgeous girls with the average guy in movies, that they start to think they deserve that type of girl, that it's every guy's birthright or something to be with a beautiful girl. I think with a lot of "lonely" guys, if they were more realistic and focused on girls they actually had a chance with rather than spending all of freshman and sophomore years pining with their unrequited crush on the head cheerleader, they wouldn't be so lonely.
Absolutely true and the same is absolutely true for plainer women, go for the plain little guy in the stands, not the star of the team..

FWIW, or not, this reminds me of a response I wrote on 10/17/13 after looking at some of the sick posts:

You and your friends feel you are far more intelligent than the average person. You also think you are experts on women in particular and relationships in general, even though few, if any, of you have ever had dates. You guys will not back down from a fight (online), engage in genuine introspection, or admit to any shortcomings. After all, what video game alpha male super hero would do that? So, everything can be blamed on someone else.
Never having been a woman, or even been in a relationship, you guys still believe you know more about women than they know about themselves. You fear women, feel rejected by them and sometimes are so overcome with such intense hatred of them that it even scares you.
You discuss your "women problems" with your virtual friends and yep, they agree that females are a scourge of the earth and this would be a super planet if they didn't exist.
Men? Well, the real ones, not those you interact with online, are also feared, but they are deserving of that fear and "respect" because they are the ALPHA MALES. The rules of the game, in your world, say you give the alpha males all the space they need because they can take you out in a flash; just like a super hero. By your accounts, they also get all the women, but it's the women's fault. They just go for the alphas and bad boys. That means there are no women available for you and your virtual friends. What to do? Hey, why not go online and say gawd awful things about women? Tell them they are inferior. Maybe they will buy it. That will teach them and show them who is really in control.
I think people should stop faux diagnosing these killer losers with the various mental illness labels. When you are quick to do such, what ends up happening is people feeling sorry for them and saying they didn't stand a chance. There are just evil people in this world -point blank.
My thouhts exactly.
Besides, there are thousands of people who have Asberger's, depression or some other form of mental illness and do not kill people.
And at what point do people stop claiming that these kind of incidents are rare? There comes a point when it stops being rare and I think that point has already been passed.

Not everyone gets the benefit of the mental illness label. I am sure if I went on a shooting rampage, they'd blame it on me being black and living in Oakland. And say of course being middle class doesn't save you from the "ills of the hood." I wouldn't only get to be mentally ill.

This is very true also. Everyone doesn't get labeled the same.

These sorts of comments are pointless. Just because MOST people with a mental illness do not commit violent acts does not mean that SOME people with mental illness do.
What part of that is so difficult to understand?
In this case, the attorney speaking on behalf of this shooter's parents stated that he had been diagnosed in childhood with Asperger's Syndrome.
So references to his mental problems are based on his parents' own statements to the media, not just speculation.

Patronizing them, simplifying them might only add more fuel to the fire as you can see re the horrible mass murders last Friday night. Sure they are sick but if you wanted to help people like them then why not take the time to see both sides and totally understand the whole situation and then try to straighten life out for those in pain from constant loneliness.
Or if not then maybe its better not to answer them and possibly make things worse.
mass murder rates, and more specifically mass public shootings, have been on the decline

But what we did see is an especially bad year in 2012 for mass public shootings. The number of cases, which was seven, was higher than in any previous year since 1999, and the number of victims who were killed and wounded was greater than in any previous year in U.S. history....this is an infrequently occurring type of crime, and that's one thing that's important to emphasize, that mass murders make up 0.2 percent of all homicides that occur within the United States, and even among mass murders, mass public shootings like the one that occurred at the Navy Yard, those make up just a little more than 10 percent of all mass murders.
