That is shameful. Those poor girls and their families.
When you consider the millions of people in India many of whom are poor they actually have a low crime rate compared to say Detroit or Chicago.
The saddest thing about India is the caste sytem. If you are poor you have ZERO chance of ever doing anything. You just wait until the next life.
You hear about all these crimes going on against women all over the world the Democrats have a lot of nerve saying the Republicans are waging a war on women.
We can't tick India off...where will we get all our engineers from then ?!?
As well as our IT Phone technical support
But really, The problem is systemic and sad. Going to the police does no good as a lot of time they are family friends with the attackers
The victim parents talking about their daughter at the 8min mark is not for the weak*****warning****
in other news, 106,000 women were raped in the United States last year and only 20% of those were actually prosecuted. 15,000 people were violently murdered across cities the United States... countless number of women ended up as victims of domestic violence.
the United States needs to be reckoned with... LOL!
Every country has crime, in a country with thrice as many people as the US crime in India is actually LOW per capita. Posts such as this one are downright laughable!

Indeed. There is a huge issue ALL OVER THE WORLD regarding how we treat women, not just in far away countries where they look, speak, and believe differently than we do.
When Women Refuse - Pages upon pages upon pages of stories of women murdered (stories from the US, Canada, Australia, the UK, and India among others) who you would never know about unless you lived in the same town.
It's easy to think that this only happens in other places. Unfortunately, it happens all too frequently right on your own doorstep and that lack of acknowledgement hurts women everywhere.

i disagree with the thinking on this comparing this act to crime or criminal acts.
What happened here is systemic and cultural violence against girls and young unmarried women. as were the previous cases.
"You don't belong on this train because you are an unaccompanied girl. OK, I can rape you and kill you". "Your ankles showed as you walked, I can rape you and kill you"
that is different than general violence and horrible acts committed by mean people and criminals. To make these acts equivalent diminishes what happened to these girls. It then becomes stated as 'downright laughable'.
And yes, murder, rape, and abuse are horrible bad and wrong. not to excuse them.
Unreported rapes in India are a problem. It's estimated that 90% of rapes go unreported(the figure is 40-60% in Western countries). The main reasons for this is that women feel like this will bring shame upon themselves/their families and that the police in some parts of India(mainly the northernmost areas) are slow-footed in investigating rapes. If there was one good thing to come out of the 2012 Delhi gang-rape, is that it raised a quite a bit of public outrage/awareness of the issue. There's a lot more public, media, and political scrutiny of the police's handing of these cases now. Hopefully, with more societal support and proper policing, more and more victims will come forward so their assailants can face justice.
Majority of the rapes in the US are committed by people the victim is familiar with while in India it is by strangers.
There is definitely a shortage of women in India, the problem stems from past cultural problems meets head-on with Western feminism.
In China, there's a huge disproportionate male to female ratio yet you don't see that many rapes because culturally the Chinese respect female rights.
