Six climbers, including two guides and four Seattle-area residents missing on Mt. Rainier. Wow, something else near Seattle after the Oso Mudslide. They are located by each other. I'm simply commenting another situation relatively close to Seattle in a short time frame.

I hope this has a happier ending than Oso.

BTW, does anyone remember if Mt. St. Helen's happened in May as well?

Let's hope for the best for them all to return safely. I've day hiked Mt Whitney twice, and can tell you the lack of air pressure slows things down above 12,000'. Add in the snow and ice from Rainier's latitude and it is seriously a tough climb.

Yes, Saint Helens was May 18th, 1980. I got to drive in the ash on I 5 way back then.

Uh, the Oso mudslide was nowhere near Mount Rainier. The mountain is about 80 miles southeast of Seattle. The mudslide was about 20 miles to the northeast.

Looks like the searchers found evidence they fell to their deaths:

Official: 6 climbers likely died in mountain fall

While Mount Rainier is a popular climbing spot, this isn't this has happened, unfortunately.

There's a saying in around here, that the Mountain needs to claim a life at least once a year, as a sacrifice.
It is believed the six souls fell 3,000 and perished.
