Actually, that's the term in every coffee shop not just Starbucks. And you do realize that people can work in coffee shops WHILE going to school at the same time, right?

Coffee servers/baristas aren't allowed to have aspirations? They are supposed to schlep coffee for the remainder of their days and never try to better themselves and move up in the world?

Oooookay.

Every coffee shop calls them Baristas?...can't wait to tell Mary the waitress at my local place...that she is a Barista....oh how elegant a term....she will be thrilled.

Sure they can go to school....

Hopefully they will realize that they should major in something that will get them a job...

Maybe they should drop the latte though and go learn a real skilled trade.

Barista and waitress are not the same job.

But no, barista is not unique to Starbucks. It's a term used quite widely. Barista - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Does this fictional Mary work at a coffee shop? "Local place" doesn't say much, good job on being vague. Does this fictional Mary actually make espresso drinks? Then yes, she's a barista. It's unfortunate you don't know the difference between a barista & a waitress. It's pretty basic. See, this is where education comes in handy, for simple definitions like the above.

I guess they need some positive publicity considering their tax-dodging shenanigans.

Yep...Mary works that expresso machine too.

Guess when you are so use to pretentious starbucks you don't know what the real world is like. Barista is a made up word....

Made up to make the Latte Set feel good that they paid over $3 for a cup of coffee.

Mary is lovely....a bit old in the tooth...but she makes the best coffee around.

Exactly. The ceo was on The Daily Show last night trying to look like Mr Righteous. All I was thinking was how about paying them a living wage, and while you're at it stop dodging vast sums in tax. Hypocritical a55hole

Liberals will be furious; only the government should pay for higher education.

Same reason they hate charities, only the government should redistribute wealth (involuntarily).

Great idea considering Starbucks is the best career most college graduates can hope for these days.
