Good links. I will read through them later. Thanks. There are several similar ones in my thread (just look for the angry red face on the left) as well.

Unfortunately, what I've found is most people just don't care.

How was Ferguson an example?

I-10 through south Louisiana is a prime example of people pulled over, cars and cash confiscated with no evidence of a crime.

Texas makes millions a year through confiscations. One of the biggest. Now, if they grab it when getting a bunch of drugs, that is one thing. But not always the situation.

So why don't the people who do fight it start suing and pressing charges? Theft is theft, with a uniform or not. We have civilian courts for this.

That's the other side of this scam. It can drag on for years and lawyers cost thousands. Freedom and democracy, glory hallelujah.

Well, what do you think? Cops shoot an unarmed black kid who had his hands up in the air then when citizens expressed their outrage the paramilitary thugs show up in tanks and battle gear and attack the press and everyone else.

So lets get this to happen to a lawyer. He'll take care of it.

Yes, but this thread is about police stealing cash from motorists, using the logic that anyone carrying a large sum of money is obviously a drug dealer or mule. Usually these cases are with normal uniformed cops.

The paramilitary SWAT overreaction in Ferguson and in general across the USA, while a valid topic on its own, has nothing to do with this.

Back on topic...
This has been going on for years. Run a google search for "policing for profit in [your state here]". In addition to the standard paranoia-laced articles on conspiracy sites, most people are amazed at the number of articles and videos on this subject from legitimate news sources. Countless tales of police stealing from people carrying cash to buy a used car, or getting a loan from a friend/relative, or just because they don't trust the thieves in the banking system. And, also, drug dealers and mules.

The fact that as much as 90% of US currency has traces of drug residue (enough to trigger an alert from a drug dog) means that any found cash can be seized. Or use Snopes as a reference if you prefer. The worst part is our ridiculous laws require that the citizens must sue to get the money back. And the burden of proof is on the citizen to prove they aren't drug dealers/mules.

The Washington Post has been running a series on these seisures. Outrageous. Whatever happened to "due process", "presumed innocent", etc.?

Not free at all. A free country doesn't have the #1 prison population.
