Why would the other casinos change to become more like that when it didn't work in the slightest for Revel?

You also have to remember that LV is warm year-round, where AC can focus on outdoors only for a few months of the year. September happens to be one of the best months down here, still warm but without the traffic and Shoobies, so room rates are going to be higher in the more "desirable" months than in the winter. The Las Vegas rates may have been low because while September is a highly desirable time at the Jersey shore, it is still stifling hot in Vegas that time of year and probably not as popular with out of staters as it is later when the rest of us start freezing and want to go someplace warm.
Actually, September is generally pretty nice here. And it gets quite cold here in winter. No snow to speak of, but certainly not "warm" like say, Florida or southern AZ.

I think part of the issue with the non-gaming attractions in AC is that AC caters to a traditionally older crowd, whereas Vegas with its proximity to So. California gets a lot of younger people who are willing to pay to party.

I've only been to AC once to the Taj Mahal but didn't care at all for it.

Can someone correct me if I'm wrong but aren't most of the AC resort employees unionized whereas Vegas only has casino positions that are?

If you have to pay a maid $17 an hour versus minimum wage, your bottom line will suck.
Most of our casino employees are union in Vegas, too. Porters, Maids, cooks, etc. All part of Culinary 226. Our well-paid casino employees spend their money locally, so contrary to what most people think about unions, 226 has been generally good to Vegas.

The dealers, food and beverage workers (bartenders/cocktail waitresses, etc) and housekeepers are union, none of the hotel, comp people/floor people, office or management positions are nor areas like customer service, valet parkers, entertainment venues. It's a fallacy that just because you're union you get a ridiculous rate, no one is starting at $17 an hour to clean toilets union or not. Most of the union jobs are tip jobs, and salaries reflect that the majority of pay is supposed to come from tips. Not all the casinos are unionized, either. Ironically Revel was not unionized at all, and they failed miserably.

I had no idea Vegas got cold in the winter, lol.

Weird because even in the summer theres about a 30 degree difference between the daytime high and the temp at night.

Also there is competition. As an Ohio Native I don't have to go to AC or LV to gamble. I have severalf casinos and racetracks with VLTs with in a couple of hours drive. I'd still go to Vegas as it's got way more to offer as far as entertainment goes.

I haven't been back to AC for 5 years ...I'm done with it....My favorite destination now for gambling and eating and hanging out is the BeauRivage in Biloxi....Outstanding southern hospitality...

They are trying to get younger people, but I guess it's not easy. They even had some PR party bus/limo this year that went to nightclubs in Philly and brought kids down to AC nightclubs, partying on the bus the whole way. I don't know if it was successful or not. There are also clubs such as the Pool at Harrahs and believe it or not, Boogie Nights in the Trop which are quite popular with younger crowds, and in summer the beach bars attract all ages. AC is expensive for drinks, parking, tolls to get here, so I don't think that helps. The first thing they need to do IMO is go back to the days of free parking at the casinos.

As part of the "older crowd" I hope they don't go too far to attract youth though. I think they should go more to the past, open places like the supper clubs in Boardwalk Empire, re-create the 20's kind of thing. Make the boardwalk more like it was back in the day....PETA would never allow a diving horse, but maybe some of the other things, lol. AC has an amazing history and I don't think they use it to their advantage. I think a really well-done museum on AC history would be awesome. I do think it's a great step in the right direction to have Miss America back, so maybe they are getting it.

If you're not gambling in A.C there's not much to do. THIS is the problem with A.C. They never catered to the non gamblers.
There must be something to do, or hundreds of thousands of people wouldn't flock to the Jersey Shore every week of the summer and much of the rest of the year, too, as they did decades before gambling was legalized in Atlantic City.

I used to be involved with a group of people who investigated starting an organization to promote the music scene at the Shore — much as Austin makes millions from a tourist industry that promotes the Texas capital nationwide as "Live Music Capital of the World." We could never get it going. Major reason: the music venues were already filled to capacity all the time. They had no need to sell more tickets.

At the Jersey Shore you have everything anyone could need to enjoy a seaside experience if that's your cup of tea. And it's all available to everyone by getting on the Garden State Parkway. The last time I was at a concert at an Atlantic City casino (at Exit 38), do you you know where I was staying? At a nice Courtyard by Marriott on Route 35 near Exit 100 for less than $100 a night. I headquartered there because on Friday I had gone to the races at Monmouth Park. On Saturday I drove down to AC, visited a couple of casinos and the boardwalk, went to a showroom for a concert that night, then drove back up to Monmouth County when it was over. I spent the next day having brunch with some friends in a great restaurant in Red Bank, did some window shopping there, then hung out on the lovely beach in Ocean Grove with some other friends visiting from Germany. We finished up Sunday night at a different music venue in Long Branch, drinking and dancing. On Monday, I took the train up to New York and spend the day in Manhattan.

In New Jersey, the Shore is your oyster. To say there's nothing to do hints at a lack of initiative.

They need to market it to the "kids." The ones partying until 4am and wearing skirts where i can see there arses. Ive been to AC last Thanksgiving and Vegas the one before. Way more children (~4-12) in AC. Start marketing to them NOW! Even Foxwoods has an arcade and a bowling alley. Just one inside arcade would be a great start.

Revel was a good idea in the wrong location. I never saw it advertised and i never wanted to walk all the way to the end for it. Frankly, i didnt even know it was there until my traveling partner pointed it out.

Even when you are comped a room, AC charges "Resort Fees" whereas Vegas does not. This is huge to me. Yes, i know its short sighted to complain about paying $16 per night, but i don't like that "nickel and dimed" feeling.

You wait much longer in AC for drinks or slot service. Not nearly as long as in CT, but way longer than Vegas.
