The picture left me wondering why he was climbing on the roof to go after her. What an awful feeling to awake to someone punching out your door to break in. I know they are investigating him for burglary but it doesn't make sense that he would then follow her onto the roof unless he was planning to do physical harm.
This is why home owners should have a gun in the house.
But why ? All they have to do is dial 911 and the police will be there to save the day. Or try to rationally talk to the guy, maybe he just needs a hug or something. Or better yet , just comply to all his demands, after all fighting back is a violation of his rights, and you don't want to harm him do you? He might have a familly or a drug habit to support.

And if he's just a lunatic bent on doing her harm? How could you try to negotiate your way out of that? And there's not always time to call 911 or wait for police to arrive when someone breaks down your door and starts attacking you.

But, what about his feelings ? How do you know he wants to harm you ? Maybe he just wanted to talk ?
Who gives you the right to be judge and jury ?
That's what happens when you live in a liberal state where self defense weapons are outlawed. These things will keep happening until they decide to vote differently.
