Would it be OK for your childs teacher was a member of the Klan and post on Facebook Klan rants about killing Blacks and White Superiority?
It's OK if anyone wants to do this but teachers have a little higher standard since they influence and teach children.
If I respect free speech I would have to accept it. (although I admit I would attempt to change teachers), however if it is outside of school and has nothing to do with her job then I likely would not know about it would I? Threatening to kill people is a crime and if the threat was serious then that should cost her the job. That is not protected speech, that would constitute a threat. I stand by what I said before, free speech is too important therefore we must accept the presence of some unsavory political and social viewpoints with out using "the system" to silence them. Making someone unable to work or provide for themselves is a way of silencing them. Im not saying people should not get angry about what she said, or vent that anger. However using her employment to silence her is a method of taking away her freedom of speech. I cannot support that.
You shouldn't have your freedom of speech restricted just because you chose to be a teacher..
Unless her school district has a code of conduct or a social media policy that she violated. Freedom of speech does not mean anyone can say whatever they want with no consequences.
"You acting crackerish", Now there is a mature adult smart woman capable of leading by example and teaching the children of today. This idiot is part of the problem and is a disgrace to black folks. One that has to resort to racial insults rather than keeping dialogue civil and intelligent is stupid and not a fit role model and leader for children. People pay a lot in school taxes and deserve the best teachers available. This person is certainly not the best and the brightest. After her cracker comment how could her white students possibly think they would be graded fairly. Those defending her and thinking she should keep her position, imagine the backlash had this been a white teacher using the N word. That you acting crackerish comment made me laugh out loud. What a moron, I hope she loses her job.
I agree with most of what you said and she should be fired, imo. But there is backlash of this black teacher's comments. That's why I posted it here on the forum. Just recently this white teacher said she would kill all black people or something like that to some of her students yet there were some here defending her. I think she should lose her job also but who knows...whenever we read these type of articles and post about it. Days past and we forget about it, for all we know, these people still have their jobs.
I don't think this teacher is in a hate organization... If a white teacher said "I hate ******s" on Facebook I don't think they should lose their job. I think it's a teachers job to teach material to kids, not be a role model. You shouldn't have your freedom of speech restricted just because you chose to be a teacher..
And she's a HIGH SCHOOL teacher, not a 1st grade teacher. I think by high school most people know how to have their own opinions. I've had teachers that don't even bother hiding their bias in the classroom. One of my teachers said Republicans are racist, another said abortion is murder and should be illegal.
The classroom is not a platform for someone to promote his or her political ideas. Of course, people do it all the time, but it's inappropriate. The point is to teach the children how to think for themselves and draw their own conclusions. Those teachers of yours were obviously incompetent jerks, but unfortunately there are lots of them in the teaching profession, as well as some very competent great teachers who tend to go unnoticed and unrecognized.
As for the one with the classless racist tweets, she ought to be fired if only because any white person who said equally nasty things about blacks would get fired instantly. Fair's fair. If we want to broaden our definitions of freedom of speech, fine, but it has to be equal across the board and not just allow one class of people to get away with it.
As long as you aren't threatening anyone or causing harm you should be able to speak your mind when appropriate with no fear of retaliation. I don't care what any teacher thinks as long as they are an effective and fair teacher..
It goes both ways of course...you should be able to fire anyone you want if you feel they are an idiot. THAT is also speaking your mind. Actions have consequences, not legal consequences (that would be indeed unacceptable), but social and career consequences...and proposing some sort of law that me as an employer that hires another person cannot fire that person if they act like an idiot - that would take away from MY rights as an employer, and I would define that as thought-crime.
