Check out the photo in the story. This was a boneheaded attempt to "raise awareness". These are the ancient lines made by native tribes 1500 years ago and can only be seen from the air.
They say the green group entered a strictly prohibited area and left footprints. The government is asking for the identities of those involved and threatening prosecution and six years in prison for the offenders.
Excellent. Nail them! What in the world were they thinking?
Damaging a country's economy by damaging it's tourism potential is nothing to take lightly. Quite frankly, I see this as little different than if someone had shot an elephant on an animal preserve.............and I'm rather surprised that Greenpeace could not see the harmful potential ahead of time.
As far as the organization itself goes, I wouldn't be a member of it..............but they do provide good intelligence from time to time.
I'm working in Peru and the Peruvians are not amused about the stunt pulled by Greenpeace. The Nazca Lines are fascinating and are an incredible mystery that doesn't need that kind of a stunt defacing the image of an historical marvel.

I have to say I'm amused by the comment that Greenpeace would support a "reasonable and fair consequences for its action", which tells me they don't actually plan on revealing who did it.
I just lost any respect I may have had for them. What an outrageous stunt.
