I would hope a settlement is in order for the family. Mistakes happen, and while money can't erase them, it is owed as the next best thing to a time machine.
People need to understand that police are not perfect. Mistakes vs. Negligence and all that. That said, accountability needs to exist on both sides of the equation.
While that is sad, the NYPD has no one to blame for themselves for this. If they actually got a handle on their power hungry abusive cops and actively punished cops that did wrong giving them VERY harsh sentences, say 25 years at least there wouldn't be so many cop haters. Maybe now the NYPD will learn something.

When did I say cop lives are more valuable? I said that the fact that these protesters only react to the deaths of the two black guys, says a lot about the moral validity of their movement. Furthermore, the two cops were just sitting in their patrol car, while one of the blacks killed threatened the police office and the other black was resisting arrest. None of the deaths were justified, but the double-standards on behalf of these protesters is disgusting.

If these recent incidents were isolated incidents that would be bad enough but they're the tip of the iceberg. People are OUTRAGED at the corrupt system that lets cops get away with murder, brutality, coverups, theft on a regular basis. People are OUTRAGED at a system where's there's no accountability and no, a rigged grand jury system doesn't count. Cops have historically been used to oppress the poor and underprivileged. We're living in an increasingly oppressive police state that jails a much greater proportion of its population than any civilized nation and the right wing cop apologists think it's just great. The problems are: no oversight and accountability of police and a for profit prison system.

How many times is there a tragedy, only to be pumped up by the news media (ratings) only to cause a new law to be written and named after a "victim" as a knee jerk response? Problem is nobody bothers to look at the unintended consequences or collateral human damage of these new "solutions".
What do you end up with? A bunch of new power being handed to those that people complain about the most (Government,Police,Courts).

40,000 new State and Federal laws enacted in 2012. I thought this was shocking but it seems that this is how it's been for years. Now think about how many new criminal offense are passed into law yearly... At what point will it be against some law just to walk out your front door?

The leftists are their black panther buddies will continue to protest for the murder of the two "innocent" black youths, and ignore the assassination of these two cops. What is more disgusting is that the murders of the cops will be justified by that side as they try to push forward their agenda of black victimization and some sort of quasi social justice campaign.
Murder of innocent people is not justifiable whether of police or by police. The problem is the right wing goons and thugs that constantly whitewash and stone wall a culture of corruption in police depts across the country have made it almost impossible for good cops to do their job. They are constantly excusing murder by cop but when a cop is killed it's a crime against humanity no matter how justified it may be. Hypocrites. It's not just a racial issue it's a JUSTICE issue, something the right wing goons who are not on good terms with the Constitution just don't get.
