Dude, marijuana hasn't been taboo since the early reefer madness days. I'm 25 and from high school on, marijuana was present and not even close to taboo. You are living under a rock if you think kids are smoking pot because they were pressured into it by society or some crap like that. They are smoking it because it's awesome, end of story. You can't possibly censor society enough that high school age kids won't know about marijuana.
Legalization is going to make it harder for underage kids to get any. Before, they could hit up their dealer, who didn't care about their age. Now they have to buy it in a store because the dealers went out of business. I guarantee you that the kids who want it will still get it one way or another, it'll just be a bit harder.
So no, legal pot isn't causing any problems. At the very least, it's not causing problems that even approach the problems that prohibition has caused. Prohibition does not work, and people like you are what's keeping it going far longer then it should be. Get with the program, Todd. You're smarter then this.
It never ceases to amaze me how people who use drugs, and yes, pot is a drug will defend themselves to the hilt on their drug using.
They will put children, family members, finances, employment all at risk.
And make so many out there off the wall reasons and excuses that it is just Okey dokey to use and it's not a problem. And hey, it is even better for everyone!
And they are so very good at attempting to turn it around twist it around on to you and off of them.

You are completely detached from reality. You pretend that any drug that is arbitrarily legal isn't really a drug. You ignore actual data and insist that X, Y and Z are or will be true, when the real-world evidence clearly shows that they are not.
Look, I have no dog in this hunt. I don't smoke marijuana and have absolutely no interest in inhaling the byproducts, both gaseous and particulate, of burning organic matter, though I do enjoy beer, and a very occasional martini. The costs of legally prohibiting marijuana exceeds that of the costs of having it legal. That is the reason I support its legalization.
I understand the data. The facts. Or, as I like to call it, reality.
I'm a pretty conservative feller, but I think pot being illegal is stupid and a huge waste of law enforcement resources and time. A little over a dozen problems does not make a crisis. There will be some growing pains with the legalization of marijuana, but I highly doubt it will be the worst thing to ever happen.
Give it time for the kinks to be worked out and just relax. The quote above is spot on.
And I really fail to see how pornography and illegal immigration tie into this topic or moral values. OK, well, porn I understand, but it isn't all that bad. FFS, it's procreation on video. All good points! Ending prohibition of cannabis will not cause the sky to fall, nor will it cause the decay of society. If anything the empty suits in DC and their corporate cronies are behind the decay!

You also can't discount the increased sales of Phish albums, Grateful Dead t-shirts, Top rolling papers, new work for unemployed glass blowers, and Moen, Price Pfister, and other faucet makers probably see an increase in orders for screens in faucets (most people won't get that).

One of the side effects of legal pot is the sharp drop in heroin overdoses in the states that legalized it, marijuana should be legal nationwide, it is a lot less harmful than alcohol.
Also sharp drops in prescription drug overdoses, particularly painkillers.

Honestly, when I was a teen, it was easier to get illegal marijuana than it was to find someone who was 21 to go buy you alcohol. I knew 5 people in my town with a 16k population that sold pot - there were probably tons more that I didn't even know. And I live in Ohio, so no where near the states who have legalized it for recreational use. I've also seen drug dealers (not the friendly fun-raising kind who just sell some pot to their college buddies) push harder drugs like heroin on people buying pot because if he can get you doing that harder stuff, you'll spend more money.
Why can't people just live and let live?? If it's not affecting you (not liking it doesn't count) then leave 'em be! I don't care what my neighbor does in his own home. That's his own business. And it's not your responsibility to parent other people's children. I know plenty of people with kids who smoke. In fact, one of them is a very well-respected preacher who does tons of charity in the community! His son is 9 and is one of the most well-behaved, well-mannered children I've ever met.
