With all the money being tossed at the schools we should be a nation of Einstein geniuses by now. Yet the USA lags behind every 1st world country in the word and behind many 3rd world these days too.

As a nation we can't even reproduce what they did in the 60s when say, they sent men to the moon and brought them back to alive to talk about it, and they did it mostly with paper, pencil and sliderules. None of these silly programs existed then.

High school courses will be dumbed down because kids are going to continue on to 13th and 14th grades.

New facilities will have to be built to accommodate the rush of new students, and the value of 2 years of community college will decrease because "hey, anyone can do it". Kids who can't get into regular college would be better off going to trade school to learn computer repair, plumbing, etc.
They teach computer repair, AC, dental hygiene, culinary, etc. at community college. It ain't Harvard.

The vast, vast majority of people don't need a degree from Harvard.

That's it. They will have even more control in order to dictate who get's the govt milk. The posts that racked up more debt than every president before him combined now want's to give more money away. Liberalism is a mental disorder and genetic flaw.

What do you guys think about this? Personally my first reaction was, that's stupid. But the more I thought about it, the more Im ok with it. We dump billions of dollars into other nations in futile attempts to "democratize" them and it fails. We spent trillions on failed wars and international policing....and they fail. We literally GIVE money to some Nations.....

If we're going to waste money like that then fine, lets at least use a "little bit" to better ourselves....

How does this fit in with Common Core? Students don't fail grades in Common Core as it may damage them emotionally setting them up for failed lives. If 2 years of community college was given to them free of charge - ridiculous - Common Core should be dropped and they be required to earn their way on true merit. Poor grades = no free college.

That's the European model -- The UKs "A-levels" or Germany's abitur exam. The students who do well receive a free education. And those who don't are shuttled in other directions -- the trades, for instance.

My only problem with this system is that it doesn't allow for the awkward adolescent screw-up to turn his or her life around. (Which happens with surprising regularity.) But it's still a better system that what the US is currently doing with for-profit "universities" and their predatory loans.

The vast, vast majority will never know what they're missing out on, either.

What the foaming at the mouth corporate prostitutes don't understand is that health and education are not expenses they're INVESTMENTS. A healthy, educated society is happier, more productive and less violent. Just look at any of the Scandinavian countries, that is until the Muslim infestation started.

Yeah, but then he whines like a spoiled brat who was raised with a silver spoon in his mouth.
He blames the others and threatens to sign and pass it through anyways.
He's icky, that's the nicest way I can say it

The free CC seems like not a big deal, it will be cheap to implement so I'm not sure why so many are so against it.

Sure but don't you do your due diligence before you invest your money ?
Or do you just spread your money out and buy 1 share of all stocks ?

The details seem to be missing here.
Obama said the requirement is attendance and moderate grades.

Well colleges don't take attendance and many professors don't require attendance.
You can show up on exam days and still get an A.

And how does the government track your progress ? If you fail do you get kicked out and a bill is sent to you for the money badly spent ? Yeah..good luck in collecting that.

Government should do what corporates do:

Tuition reimbursement. You take the class on your own dime.
At the end you fill out the form and send it in with a copy of your final grade.
Then you get a check for the tuition you paid.

That is a more viable program. That keeps "skin in the game".
But this is our government and they don't operate that way.
