Look at this image.

Real gun or not? Just, instant thought that runs through your head.

It'll tie back to Current event shortly.. Wait for it.

Instant thought was "no", but I know nothing about guns.

What's the answer?

Meh.. I thought about it more and the question is poor. There is no right or wrong answer, because either could be right.

It is a real gun in that it exists and is available to buy. However, it is a BB gun.

The point, which I failed at miserably.. Was, if that was pointed at you, would you be brown pantsing it?

I figured we could branch out into, assuming that everyone pretty much agreed that this was a horrible idea, why this thing is even on the market.

Another image of it that makes it more ominous to me, is this one.

Story about it at Real or Fake? Spartanburg PD See Troubling Gun Trend - WSPA.com

And.. If you wanted one for some odd reason.. Right at Walmart.. Or Sports authority, or various other locations.

Ruger P345 Precision BB Pistol Kit - Walmart.com

I figure it's not too long before we get a story of a cop shooting someone who pulls one of these. This is irresponsible on the manufacturer, IMO. It just looks TOO real.

Then don't pull a BB gun on a cop, don't take a BB gun to a playground.

Those are not the same guns. The gun in the second photo clearly has the orange tabs intact that indicate that it is not a real gun. I don't see these tabs on the first photo of a gun, and therefore, in a desperate situation, one assumes the gun is real.

Right on that...it's a BB gun and I've carried one while hiking and motorcycling and for a semblance of protection when I lived in an isolated rural area.

It could scare off an intruder, human or coyote, and ''common sense'' ought to dictate that it should never be pointed at a cop or anyone, except those who might be a threat aka burgler in the night, for example.

If you are talking about the bit of orange on the barrel of the gun, that would be the site. It is not uncommon for real guns to have sites very similar to this. The only way orange would help determine if the gun was indeed a fake would be if the last inch of the barrel was painted orange.

In a desperate situation, any gun should be considered real. Unless, of course, you don't care about living.

No, if the person wielding it were close enough to be an immediate threat, they'd be close enough for me to determine by the bore diameter that it was a bb gun.

As stated that's the front sight, so fail there.
