Ohio Man Charged With Plotting to Bomb U.S. Capitol - NBC News

What's with all the random "sympathisizers" these days? Nice to see DHS isn't sleeping on the job.

What was interesting about the story was the manner in which they zeroed in on him. I think some of the openly jihadist-sympathetic posters here should take note of this... (or for our sake, keep posting your raving lunacy so the feds can keep tabs on you)...

Actually, Cornell had a friend who turned him in. The friend had an outstanding criminal charge and offered the police a deal to set Cornell up in in a sting in exchange for immunity. The FBI then set up the sting, sold him the weapons, and arrested him as he prepared to carry out the plot.

The guy seems to be a few cents short of a dollar. He thinks Anwar Al Awlaki gave him the go-ahead.

Let's be thankful that for the most part the fanatics are pretty incompetent. We are protected by their inabilities and by our vigilance. The lone wolf attack is pretty much all they can mount against us here in North America. So it boils down to mainly mental defects, psychopaths and criminal idiots who carry out these attacks. Nothing different than your run of the mill criminal skumbags.

Unfortunately other regions in which terrorism has become the norm started off the same way. It will only get worse from here, I'm afraid.

I guess nobody cares when the attack is actually stopped before it happens.

There was no attack. It was an FBI concoction. He didn't have the means to carry out the attack without the FBI. You can tell the FBI is sensitive to criticisms about these manufactured plots. Instead of having an agent directly transfer the weapons to him, they arranged it with the gun store owner to sell it to him. Previous targets required the FBI to front them the money to carry out the plots, sometimes as much as $250,000 to bribe the would-be terrorist. The FBI noted he was still saving up money for a terrorist plot which they hope will show he was motivated. The other thing is he had a very limited number of postings about jihad when the friend turned him in. It's very likely that he was egged on to do more by the FBI undercover agent and the whole plot was formulated by the agent. He had a desire to do a group attack but appeared to be unfocused. It's been common in the other sting operations. I believe they refer to the target as being disposed to commiting a criminal act as a result of beliefs. Law enforcement keeps databases called a disposition matrix.
