Crapping in the street would be a "natural state of being" if you were not born into a civilization. I don't think Thoreau really needed to qualify his statement to clarify that he was talking only about (supposedly) civilized men.
It sure would be.
Nonetheless, I hold that violence is ingrained in DNA. We're born with it. Civilization offers alternatives, but it doesn't change the fact that we're primates. We still crave violence. It's intrinsic. It feels good. Football, UFC, etc. are civilized violence. Even non-contact sports feed into our desire to conquer and see our tribe victorious so that our DNA, not the DNA of that competing tribe, carries forward. Making war often has other justifications than pure violence, sure. And a lot of people can overcome their nature and see the horrors of war.
Anyway, I don't disagree with a lot of the quoted paragraphs. Just that bit.
If he really feels this way, he should head to a bar frequented by SEALs and explain his premise to them.
I'm sure they'd love to hear how their brothers who provide cover during dangerous operations are just a bunch of cowards. Maybe they'd buy him a beer and give him a standing ovation.
Or they may kick his tail. It could go either way really.
I haven't read Kyle's book, but I assume the part in thr movie showing Kyle going into Iraqi homes with the "door knockers" (said to be the most dangerous job in thr US military in Iraq at the time) is true. It seems he wasn't just willing to be far away from the action. His SEAL training would definitely indicate he wasn't a coward who wanted to stay far from the action.
The invasion of Iraq was the most unjustified act of aggression since Hitler went into Poland. Anyone who participated in it is worse than subhuman.
You haven't answered my previous question, and I am going to ask again.
Are you an American citizen? Have you ever paid tax? If you have paid tax, you have participated in the war. Does this make YOU a subhuman?

ALL mafia came from Italy is a generalization.
The view that the Mafia is an organization of especially ruthless psychopaths is wrong – in fact, members of ‘Cosa Nostra’ have lower psychopathic traits than other criminals.
So even generalize Mafia is intellectual dishonesty.
Carry on.
Having said that, Have you ever thought about when do generalizations move into stereotypes?
Stereotypes are overgeneralizations; they often involve assuming a person has certain characteristics based on unfounded assumptions..
We stereotype people based on what we assume about particular categories of identity and what other characteristics are associated with those categories.
These are not generalizations, they are stereotypes. They are assumptions based on unfounded ideas about these groups, not identifying particular characteristics of a group of people. They signify a gap or lack in understanding. We typically stereotype those whom we do not understand or about whom we have no knowledge.
So your quoted materials are nothing but over generalization based on stereotypes. This kind of material cannot be taken seriously. It only makes YOU look overly dramatic.

There have been plenty of snipers in the news over the decades, madman who unload their weapons on innocent people from bridges and tall places, and those who murder school children and the Amish. Never a peep out of Michael What's-his-name until now.
Our US Military ROCKS! US military Snipers rock! Demi Moore in A Few Good Men said it best when asked why she loved military men so much. "Because they stand on a wall and tell us nothing will hurt us tonight."

Kyle was wounded twice in combat, besides being banged up by numerous close-call IED explosions.

.
Demanding that a fellow forumer to list their qualifications to make a point, as if you were in some sort of position of authority to do so, is Intellectual Dishonesty at it's greatest.
This exceeds the Intellectual Dishonesty nonsense of your previous theory that you posted earlier about the Mafia. In both cases, it's got nothing to do about Michael Moore blabbering about the sharp shooters in the military and points made about it.

Well, I do not agree with that poster calling military personnel subhuman however, to be fair, we have no choice in some of our taxes going toward the military. That does not mean that someone is participating in war. Just as those who are against welfare have no choice that some of their taxes go to those programs, that does not mean that they are participating in it.
