50 police agencies have been using the Range Radar Device for 2 years. When placed on the outside of a house, it detects movement inside up to 50-feet away. No warrant is needed for its use, but many are saying it violates our rights. The police argue that it saves lives by letting them know where occupants are before they storm troop a home.
I say, anyone caught with one of these in his or her possession, cop or not, should receive and automatic 20 years in prison. Problem solved. Of course those devices violate our right to privacy. How can anyone argue that they don't?

I'd bet there's going to be a test case sooner than later, probably going all the way to SCOTUS under the right to privacy/unreasonable search and seizure argument.
I'd also bet SCOTUS will require a warrant before this device can be used. As for private uses, there's already laws in place that would cover non law enforcement use. I'd envision laws against peeping as one of them.

Jim, if the law required the cops to have a warrant signed by a judge before using this thing, I guess I'd be OK with that. The cops should not, however, be able to use this thing at will.
I felt safer 50 years ago, back when we didn't even lock our doors at night. I sometimes feel that I'm only a whisper away from being arrested for some stupid thing or another.

I think something like this can be very helpful. I think of the instance where the flash bang they through into the house landed on the baby. This scanner could have helped determine that there was indeed an infant in there.

That device can't distinguish between a baby and a cat.

Or maybe they shouldn't be using military style raids on the public in the first place.
