This is nuts. That customer never wanted a dang cake, anyway, he just wanted a case. The bakery will win because they offered to bake a cake without writing something they found offensive on it (sounds like a solution for religious bakeries, too).
The courts are crowded enough without wasting time on trumped-up cases.
Exactly. This is just a ploy to make a legal case out of nothing. No one really wants a cake saying, "I hate X types of people," or "People who are Y should burn," etc.
If you force a religious owner to bake a cake for a gay couple that's ok but then you turn around and claim you can't force a gay bakery to bake a cake for a group that sees homosexuality as a sin and want to use your own justification and belief in what the bible says to discriminate against them.
It could not be more deliciously hypocritical than that

In the other case, the baker refused to bake the cake and turned the customers away.
This baker agreed to bake the cake and provide the means by which the customer could satisfy his request.
First of all, it wasn't a "gay bakery" ... secondly, they were more than happy to make them a cake. They weren't willing to put a hateful message on the cake.

The baker isn't a hypocrite. The hypocrites are the people who support this baker's right to withhold a service, decorate a cake as requested by the customer, because the message offends her, while opposing the right of other business owners to withhold a service because it offends them.
I think the disturbing thing here is the fact that what sounds like a government agency the "Colorado’s Civil Rights Division" is involved. I see a huge amount of overreach here and this is an agency, if it is taxpayer supported, that needs to be eliminated due to stupidity and lack of any common sense.

She wasn't withholding a service. She was happy to bake the cake for them, and even decorate it, just not decorate it with that particular subject matter. She offered a way to make it happen.
That's different than not even being willing to bake a cake at all.

Agreed. Especially as the owner offered to bake the cake, and offered the customer a bag of icing so he could write his message on the cake himself.
Although the more cynical part of me thinks that this case won't go anywhere also because the guy's on the wrong side of the gay agenda issues, political correctly speaking.
