I hope you will all support me equally fervently when I get fired from my job at Wal-Mart for telling everybody, "Have a nice day, and don't forget to vote Democratic!"
Maybe they should change it to "Blessed be!" and it would suddenly become a Wiccan greeting. For crying out loud, what is the world coming to when we can't even wish someone well without offending someone else? People who get upset about stuff like this need counseling.
It wouldn't offend me but I think it's inappropriate. The guy shouldn't be saying it to the customers. Some people have to be told when they are intruding their belief systems on others. He probably didn't even think about it. He can just as easily say "have a nice day," or "have a good day" if he wants to wish someone well.
, I don't hear (or see) anyone saying, "Have a blessed day," here. I deal with it when people go bonkers over Christmas where my spiritual beliefs are tromped on because everyone seems to be a Christian. It gets annoying. But the Walmart guy who has a job, I'd ignore it and I'm glad it was stopped.
As an atheist, I really don't think there's much wrong with saying "Have a blessed day" - dude's not referring to who is going to be blessing the day. Heck, I basically worship the randomness of the universe, so I'd just take it as "hope it's a good one for you."
Wal-Mart was pretty clueless to even respond to such a bizarre complaint. Are they completely lacking in common sense? Never mind - dont' answer that.
need to go to Europe they can just tell you to BUZZ OFF- and send you on your way-- people rather be dealt with n a rude manner anymore, I know when I worked the retail- customers can be the nastiest humans on earth- so this does NOT surprise me.
Whomever complained about this ought to be ashamed of themselves. How mean-spirited can you get?

I mean this in the most compassionate way I can express it...
Your post made me happy - and I'm sorry that you despise my religion. You're certainly able to do that - and I'm sure we could have a great conversation where you'd voice your opinion and I'd voice mine - respectfully of each other...
I can tell, from your post, and how you voiced your opinion, we both share compassion for others, despite our differences.
For your post sir, I hope that YOU have a blessed day!

I mostly agree, but what if he were to say "may Satan earn your worship by helping you defeat your enemies"? Basically the same thing except it specifically identifies Satan.
I don't mind someone saying "have a blessed day" even though I'm not very religious (a Deist). It's a positive sentiment so it is not offensive. As long as there is no problem with a Muslim saying to him "asalamu alakeyum", their traditional greeting which is basically the equivalent of saying "have a blessed day".
A few months ago I heard these Christian fundamentalists saying "God is great" to each other and I was tempted to say "Indeed, Allah akbhar" just to see how they would react, since "Allah akbhar" literally means what they were saying to each other, "God is great".
Allah and Jehovah and Jesus are, of course, all the same being. If there is a God, then all those concepts are just different interpretations of God. Allah is God, that's just the name of God in Arabic. The Hindu gods colllectively are God; it is a polytheistic interpretation of God.
Guys saying have a blessed day don't really mean it, they just want you to know they are good christians.
It's a holier than thou maneuver. The only group more obnoxious with their phony public platitudes are the Mormons.
If you're at work you should stick to the script, not pretend you're in the mission field.
Definitely agree. It's part of the "Christianese talk," one of the buzzwords, that is part of conservative Christian behavior. It was something everyone in my (former) fundamentalist circle would say, and I've never heard anyone other than Christians say it.

Maybe that's true according to the dictionary definition, but in reality, I don't see it used that way.
I certainly wouldn't get worked up if someone told me "Have a blessed day," but I can't take anyone seriously if they claim this has no religious intent, specifically, Christian.
Anyone here not a Christian who would regularly tell people "Have a blessed day"? Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?
