When we left the Iraq theater we left the Iraqi army with a lot of our equipment like the Abrahms Tank. The Iraqi army subsequently abandoned them in retreat from ISIS and now they are being used by ISIS.
So now the question is, do we send Jordan the military equipment that can take out the tanks, if they don't have it already, or do we send in our personnel with our equipment to take out the tanks, or other US equipment?
If we give Jordan the equipment, is there any guarantee that it won't find its way into ISIS' hands?
My feeling is that we should be sending in our air power, or whatever is needed, to take out any of the US equipment in ISIS' control and then get out. Then the local enemies of ISIS can do the rest on their own. They are not always our best friends anyway.
The only losers in this strategy are the American companies that make the equipment that Jordan would pay for, if we prohibited the companies from selling to them. It's probably for that reason my idea will never be adopted.
Jordan already has hundreds of modern British made tanks and hundreds of US made howitzers; exactly how many do you think they need?
Also, the US guarantees Israel will always have the upper hand in defense against its neighbors, so any increase in weapons the US supplies these countries like Jordan, the more we must supply Israel; works great for the military industrial complex!
With all wounded warriors coming back from Iraq/Afghanistan, our focus should be solely on them Not ISIS.

Basically what has happened is we failed in our exiting Iraq and even failed to recognize it has more important to radical because of its wealth to sustain their movement. Anyone listening to the joint chiefs should know we militarily are not able to do what we did in Gulf War .Take the Air force as example I remember from the hearings. At time of gulf War we had 180 air force combat ready fighter squadrons. We now have 50 and soon to cut to 40 to meet combat readiness. requirements. Its would take a decade at minimum to get back to gulf War strength. The same is true of the other military as they reported. Its not by coincidence that from Ukraine to middle east we have suddenly been challenged more.

So, what you are saying is with the largest defense budget in the world, 40 USAF fighter squadrons, 20 aircraft carriers (including the LHDs), billions of dollars spent on Iraq's defense forces, let alone our ground forces, etc; the US does not have the capability to defeat the ISIS?
I'm beginning to think that it might not be such a bad idea to form private (and privately funded) groups to take pages from their playbooks, take the fight to them, and exterminate them like the vermin they are.
The US should just get out. Our airstrikes look good on television but in reality they will never defeat ISIS. That's up to the other nations in the Middle East. If they won't stand up and fight then let them deal with the consequences.
I hope we don't get drawn into a full fledged conflict with ISIS. Our politicians will try to drum up support and ratchet up the hysteria every time one of these brutal execution videos surface on the web. Let these animals rip each other apart.
The reality is that this country would need air and ground forces in the Middle East on a Vietnam War level and an occupation force that would be there for generations. The costs of such an operation would be staggering and cost billions that would be better used at home.
