I am aware there is a Brian Williams thread. I read several pages of posts. Given Williams '
decision and email to NBC employees today, this seems different enough to post separately. Additionally, NBC is investigating independently.

Brain Williams won't be at the Anchor's desk for the "next, several days." Lester Holt will cover.

I have no idea how NBC will investigate independently. Please post if you can add to how that might be done.

Is this the beginning of the end for Brian Williams Anchoring and Reporting News? Will people question everything he says, given the "mis-remembered" info on Katrina as well?

Here is the link: Brian Williams Leaving NBC News Anchor Desk

Default I hope he disappears

The man is a liar. He fabricated those stories for personal gain and credibility, deceiving the American public all these years. This should be the end of him. I believe this announcement is a preliminary step for NBC to rid themselves of him permanently.

I have a feeling there won't be any "Upon my return..." for Williams. He disappointed too many viewers with that lie. I was going to switch to David Muir but I like Lestor, so I'll stay.

Hi, MSR!

NBC is evaluating the damage and any damage that might happen if he stays on. NBC is trying to figure out if the commercial contracts can be retained, no doubt there are bail out clauses that are being considered. NBC has tied so much of its reputation to Williams they either have to salvage him or throw him under the bus. There isn't much left to salvage because this isn't the end. Already there are efforts to dampen the story by seeing if anyone else has a skeleton and there will be a lot of pressure to make all this go away. Flushing Williams is the right thing to do and would serve two purposes; disconnect NBC from Williams and then allow them to take the higher dirt road and claim they don't tolerate liars. Of course the degree of lying they tolerate is open to question but they could manage the appearance of some conscience.

Business is business...I think there is too much damage...and
he will be gone...NBC will investigate the loss of advertiser $$.
...maybe what else will surface they would not be able to recover from...
also, investigate what advertisers will stay if they switch him or keep him.

Does that mean NBC has to retract all their news stories?

Regardless of anyone's individual feelings (and regardless of whether he lied, embellished or misremembered) Brian Williams job is all about being credible. My guess is NBC's "investigation" is mostly about whether Mr. Williams can maintain (or regain) any sort of credibility. If not, he's gone.

NBC News won't stand up for Brian Williams - despite the fact that he has served them well. I mean, look what they did to Ann Curry.

I'm afraid it's the last of Brian
