My friend used a gun to prevent her rape and murder by a career felon.

Is she a gun nut too?

Bad logic. You presume that the gun is what made the person harmful to others. He could have just driven his truck through a crowd of people, or kicked off a ho-made IED (a favorite implement of destruction elsewhere).

Also bad logic. The gun didn't make the person harmful to others. The gun made the person significantly MORE harmful to others.

The only real question is how can we more effectively keep firearms away from such people without infringing on the rights of those who aren't going to shoot up schools, markets and churches.

"We can't. Give up. Just keep shoveling guns at society and hope things improve," is not a particularly bright answer. America is better than that.

The truth is you can't. How many of these killers are always described as nice, normal people who always said hello or some such thing? More than not. You can't tell that a man is going to kill their girlfriend, wife, family, or decide to start robbing banks and sticking people up.

Five people were killed, including several children. And these people were killed not only because this guy was mentally-ill... These people were killed because this guy have a license and gun! I'm not against all weapons, but i'm against weapons in hands of average citizens, which think that they will never use their guns wrong!
People, time to understand, that gun under your pillow will bring more harm than good.
Well said! I totally agree. Take away the right to bear arms and see how many senseless and especially accidental deaths go down in statistics in the USA.

If the government tried to take that right away there would be a lot of dead politicians and police/feds (those stupid enough to try and enforce it). That isn't paranoia or over exaggeration, just reality.

Even worse logic. The gun didn't do anything. No amount of blame can determine what this person would or could have done without it.

The only way to stop gun violence is to go back in time and stop the person who created them and burn all documents. Life would be better if guns NEVER existed, but we can't do much about it now. Too many bad people have them to simply ban now.

Why is this such a popular statement? The police/military would wipe out people who rebelled overnight. You are so far outgunned that there is literally no resistance you can put up to APCs, choppers, and tanks.

People act as if they have some secret military tactics and weapons training inside them that'll kick in all of the sudden. Just because you can shoot a defenseless deer doesn't mean you can stand half a chance against a trained killer with an assault rifle.
