Seems that it could be a hate crime, but not the kind the media may prefer...atheist lefty with a superiority complex offs three religious wackos as opposed to Billy Bob the Christian conservative decided to have a holy war and kill some Muslims.

Where on earth did you read he's a "lefty"? Atheism means he's liberal?? You do know there are Christian liberals, right?

As an aside, it's not the "media" trying to portray it as a hate crime, it's the students' families. This feud was ongoing for quite some time, it is possible he said some bigoted things to them in the course of the arguments, none of us know yet. But hey, let's not go by facts, let's go by conjecture and try to make it fit whatever our own political agenda is.

Three Muslim-American students killed near North Carolina university campus

By a self-declared (on Facebook) gun-toting atheist who said that Christians and Muslims are the problem with the world....
Just saw this on the national news as I read this thread. Of course the media somehow is going to try to portray him as a right-wing Christian extremist......................

Apparently the killer is an avowed "anti-theist" who hates both Muslims and Christians (and presumably others).

Is that enough for this to be a hate crime? What if the people he had a parking dispute with and killed had been Christians? And by "Christians" I mean obvious Bible-toting types, not the ones who just go to church on Christmas & Easter.

In the legal system probably not. Because there are so few Muslims killed for their faith or lack thereof by people other than al Qaeda, Islamic State, Taliban types in the court of public broadcasting and the need for a story it becomes a hate crime.

If the ones killed were all Christian, the USA MSM would have completely ignored the story.

Right after they were finished ignoring "the war on Christmas," no doubt.

The muted discussion on here is also telling. If the gunman was a "Christian conservative" type then there would be at least 10 pages to this thread, rather than just 3.

Not so sure about that.

Any crime involving guns and killing of three people in cold blooded fashion would make headline news.
